This strategy gives diligent students a greater sense of fairness and control and discourages free ridership. 
It is important to assess individual, as well as group, learning and performance. To do so, you can add individual components to the group work (i.e., add a test or quiz to go along with the project). We have to address fairness and equity for each individual member of the group as we build the rubric for assessing group work.
