Being born a Canadian citizen is one of the most important parts of my culture. Canada is a vast and beautiful country with tons of wildlife and Crown Lands that allow people to enjoy the surrounding nature. A big part of my life is my love of outdoors and Canada has allowed me to explore and learn about my home and native land.

I was born and raised in Durham Region and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Subculture - Outdoor Activities

A subculture I would fall into would be the material culture of outdoor activities. I find this one to be a material culture due to the need of gear for almost all activities.

Personally, I really enjoy exploring and learning about the nature that I come across. Some of the activities I enjoy are:

Camping
Hiking/Rucking
Canoeing/Kayaking
Fishing
Hunting
Foraging

All of these have a large impact on who I am and what I am passionate about.

Subculture - Baseball

Baseball had a very large part in shaping who I am today. I played for 16 consecutive years for various teams including Team Ontario and Team Canada. Baseball allowed me to connect with other cultures within countries such as Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. Playing on different levels has allowed me to play alongside people from all different walks of life. Old & Young, Rich & Poor, Black & White, I have shared a bench with all kinds of people.

Baseball will always leave a large impact on my life because it is the activity that allowed me to learn about other people the most. I learned how children experiencing poverty in Dominican Republic play Baseball with a stick and a bottle cap. Seeing things such as that made me truly appreciate what I have.

Where I come from

I am a proud Canadian with deep rooted history throughout Canada. I am Métis and my family originates from just south of Akimiski island. I believe my love of the land and the connection I feel to nature has to do with my Métis ancestors. I personally don't take part in any cultural celebrations or ceremonies but I have a deep respect for those that are dedicated to their spirituality in that way.

Education - Education is one of my values because I believe it is always important to be a lifelong learner. It is very important as a society to participate in evolving education. Education allows societies to progress further and I have always valued how far a proper education can take you.

Justice - Given that I want to become a Police Officer, I have a strong sense of Justice. I believe that those who have been wronged deserve the chance to have it righted.
