In the fourth chapter of “To kill a Mockingbird”,by Harper Lee the author makes a statement about prejudice and sexism in the book. On page 54 it says“I was not sure but Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that’s why other people hated them so…”.From this section of the reading Harper Lee was trying to convey the theme of sexism to the reader. Jem is saying that because Scout is a girl she always imagines things and she's never right just off the fact that she was a girl. This convoys sexism because Jem is pre assuming that scout and every other girl is the same which is also prejudice. The author is trying to show how prejudice is assuming something about someone because they fit a certain category, in the reading section it would be that Scout is a girl. Through this interaction Scout was able to learn that anyone can be prejudiced towards anyone, even her own brother. In conclusion the reading section was an example of sexism.
