I am really inspired by rural supernatural fiction, specifically the work of Kelly Link, or the Big fish book. Something about magic being an unspoken, accepted, often horrifying part of life speaks to me in a way that other genres do not.

I don't want my life to be consumed by my work. I need to be able to leave room for friends, family, hobbies and other parts of a healthy lifestyle. I only live once, and as such I want to live my life to it's fullest extent. I don't want to be the person who only talks thinks and does work.

When working creatively you have to let yourself recharge. The consumption of art is just as important to the artist as the creation of art. I want to take my time to cultivate a diverse and interesting taste in music, film, tv, books, fine art, and other creations. I also want to create a catalogue of what I like about certain works so I can look back and draw inspiration.

I have experiences a large amount of misogyny in my time in technical theatre, so I want to work to create a space where, afab people, nonbinary people, neurodivergent people and others can feel safe and respected. I don't want other people to have to go through what I went through, and get discouraged and quit theatre.

I also want to design for shows that help people understand the experiences I have gone through because of being nonbinary afab and autistic. Those stories deserve to be told and I want to help them be told beautifully.

I want to live a happy and healthy creatively fulfilled life surrounded by people who care about me and doing stuff that I enjoy doing. While yes being comfortable financially is a goal, money is not what I am striving for, only creative freedom and recognition from my peers.

I want to be a scenic designer. While I really do enjoy working in scene shops and doing props design and creation, scenic design is my real passion. I am hoping to become a resident designer in some specific theatre or become the go to scenic designer for a prolific director.

I have really been influenced by the budgetary and technical limitations that were imposed on me at my high school. I want to learn to think outside the box and create with the full power of the wonderful shop here at UT. I can do more than stage flats and UIL peices.

I have been influenced mostly by movies and TV and as such usually strive for sets that depict realistic settings and interiors. While this is good for some shows, I want to move away from only using realism, and change to using it as a tool when needed.

I am often inspired by other scenic designers work, specifically on movies and TV shows. I particularly like the sets for science fiction and fantasy shows because it really allows the designers to go buckwild and design like crazy instead of being stuck with certain time periods.
