Transcendentalism is a daunting word that can be even harder to define. This complex word encompasses several philosophical and religious ideas, with one idea being the most prominent. This is the idea that people possess knowledge about themselves and the world around them that goes beyond their senses. Transcendentalists apply this same idea to their relationships with friends, nature and themselves. They are the valiant individuals in the crowd who are willing to stand apart. They are hungry for independence and change. Similarly to John Mayer, these people are "Waiting On The World to Change." This song perfectly explains the toxic relationship between us and society. Too many people today live in jealousy of each other, fear of judgement, and feel pressured to comply with society's standards. Transcendentalists were bold men and women who dedicated their lifework to this cause and possessed education much beyond their years.
