Growing up surrounded by the vibrant traditions literally from East to West(My mother is American-Filipino, and my father is Filipino-Chinese) I've developed a deep appreciation for various aspects of Filipino culture. From the catchy tunes of OPM to the colorful festivals that dot our calendar, I find joy in exploring the rich tapestry of our cultural heritage. One Philippine Pop Culture phenomenon that I'm thrilled to feature in this padlet is Filipino street fashion. Street fashion in the Philippines has evolved into a dynamic fusion of traditional and modern influences, reflecting the diverse tastes and creativity of Filipino youth. From streetwear brands that incorporate indigenous textiles to fashionistas boldly mixing and matching Western and Filipino elements, Filipino street fashion is a celebration of individuality and cultural pride. The best part about being a model would probably be the opportunity that I get to try on various designs from different local designers utilizing unique textiles that are proudly Filipino.

This evening gown was created by a Sarangan designer who is known to use local textile. Going into that pageant, I knew in my heart that I wanted an elegant gown with a splash of my "Filipino culture", and I'm glad I made the right choice. Not only did I stand out that night, but my heart was happy knowing that I flaunted the Filipino Art and creativity through fashion.
