The reconstruction included a shift in the view on African Americans and the rights they have as people. Since they were black schools and were viewed as inferior they received less funding and less supplies to make their school year successful. Their buildings weren't nearly as nice as the white schools and they had half the amount of books and typical school supplies like pencils that the white schools had. A typical white school in Alabama in 1940 got around 37$ per child while black schools got only 7$. The teachers also worked for less in black schools.
