In this conflict, Mexican Texas wanted to secede from mexico. After its president, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, commonly referred to as just Santa Anna. Abolished the 1824 Mexican constitution and became the countries dictator. Numerous battles would initiate and would ultimately crown Texas as the victor. That caused a conflict that went to the supreme court, where Scott’s lawyers argued that he had lived in a free territory, so he was a free man. But the court decision stated that slaves were considered property, and Scott could not file a lawsuit because he was not a citizen.
