Introduction

In this Chapter Ratliff discusses how most people's lives consist of repetitive actions and patterns for a sense of comfort and stability. However in music it does not have to be this way, he says "But music doesn't have to be set at right angles. There are other shapes and motions a musician or band or composer can make to achieve the condition of music." He goes into detail about how music is very diverse and all the different 'forms' music can come in. Ratliff also goes into detail about how he believes part of linking and exclusivity is making music that kind of finds itself and isn't predictable. He related music to crystals, stating "the external forms of crystals are limitless." Just as music is limitless when it comes to the form it may resemble.
