Learners Voice and Choice:
Learners often express frustration with an inability to find and use code that they have written earlier hence the coding library.
Also see learner frustration frequently with overly complex Python editors and learner's inability to determine whether they have made a mistake in coding or if the editor has had problems hence the pointing toward online-python.com which simplifies the editor enormously.
PRIMM an acronym used to guide the learning of coding. Used repeatedly in this class to breakdown complex code.
Thought this program, students are encouraged to form their own groups (when suitable) and are often invited to decode or explain to their classmates what material on the whiteboard means. Students are also given the choice as to do some of the work during class time or to do this at a later instance.
The input the Students have to the construction of the Learning Agreement is also a significant opportunity for the Learner Voice and Choice to be heard
Learners also get to steer regarding their programming library construction. It's needs and requirements only are detailed. How the learner goes about constructing it is up to them and is an opportunity to use and expand their metaskils
Collaborations:
The critical idea is that everybody can teach me something. I am lucky in that the IT teaching department has a huge level of experience within it which I can steal from. This ranges from the people that have taught for a long time to those who have only been teaching for a year or so . These people I rub shoulders with on a regular basis and most of my collaborations come through them but they are not the only sources. I also get lots from students themselves and colleagues from other departments and friends/contacts who are also involved in teaching are contribute significantly too

Standard Facilities:
Computer with Python 3.10 installed & Visual Studio &
Internet Access.
All students have access to (from any internet capable location) their VLE which is a source of teaching materials, exercises and is the method used of submitting material s for marking. It is important that I have a route to this VLE as well.
Kahoot quizzes play a heavy role in this program. These can be accessed on mobile phones as well as the available desktop computers.
In every classroom there are not only desktop computers but a "big screen" visible to all students with a display port connection and white boards.
It is also necessary for the instructor to have a means of emitting onto the "big screen" through USB stick or their own laptop.
Students have access through their VLE to not only problem statements relevant to their stage in the course ("unlocked" as they progress), submission tools for but also videos of course material being delivered which Students can view to clarify course content or to make up time if they have been unable to attend.

Approach Used
Constructivism (both social and regular) is a central element which is used through this course. In many cases, striving takes place to make the prior knowledge of the Students one of the main elements which allows them to make sense of the (otherwise rather artificial and pedantic) coding language. This element is important to the point where a whole Task in the first week of meeting the Students, is given over to this activity concept (the task of giving a mindless thing instructions to make a cup of tea). This task makes the point that effective instructions need to be exact and also uses the Student's prior knowledge to scaffold their abilities in programming (as well as being an effective icebreaking and an opportunity to have some fun)

Student PLAs
Looked up before the course starts

Dates
There are two times students can join this program. The first is at the end of September at the start of the academic year. The second is in January. Because of this, specific dates for events have not been detailed. The general progression of this program is by weeks (one 2hour class per week)
