When Titus first met violet, he thought she was beautiful, and they started to hang out after the incident on the moon. They were dating for quite a while until violet they broke up when violet was at a weakened state. Their first real date was when she was showing him how you can manipulate the feed. "What I'm doing, what I've been doing over the feed for the last two days, is trying to create a customer profile that's so screwed, no one can market to it. I'm not going to let them catalog me. I'm going to become invisible" (98)

Later down the line, they started to talk about serious stuff. Riots, class difference, the effects of the feed on the brain, stuff like that. She sort of just put everything out there when they broke up. "Do you know why the Global Allience is pointing all the weaponry at their disposal at us? No. Hardly anyone does. Do you know why our skin is falling off? Have you heard that some suburbs have been lost, just, no one knows where they are anymore? No one can find them? No one knows what's happened? Do you know why the earth is dead? Almost nothing lives here anymore, except for where we plant it? No. No, no, no. We don't know any of that. We have tea parties with our teddies. We go sledding. We enjoy being young. We take what's coming to us. That's our way." (272-273)

When comparing violet and Titus to the real world, the best way is to consider them a high school couple. They could have potential and somewhat saw it as such, but it can also easily fall flat, like how it did with them. Sometimes, when you are dating someone, you start to grow a deeper bond, but you also start seeing them as they truly are, and that could keep people away from each other, like with Titus and violet. It's to ultimately say, yes, their relationship can be similar to real world relationships.
