Wilfred Owens "Disabled" explores the moral code of war and how its negatives out-weigh the positives. Additionally, Owen also expresses society's inadequate recognition of war veterans. The fact that the man in the poem specifically acknowledges the person who thanked him shows how infrequently it happens and how the cheering shows him how most people do not understand what he truly had to face.

Despite risking one's life on the battlefield, crippled soldiers are seen as a "disease" by others. On the battlefield others do not have a sense of guilt and responsibility for their actions, no matter how evil. Overall, the "glory" of war is not explored and is instead suppressed by the negative and evil brought upon individuals by it.
