The wealthy also know as the 1% basically control the outcome of America such as how the elections go. The 4000 wealthy families back in the gilded age most likely did the same thing.

The Gilded age was a significant time in american history. It seemed as if America was finally gaining control of their economy and choices. However they still faced various challenges, immigrants specifically were constantly degraded and exploited. They worked low paying jobs under harsh conditions. Much like today, nothing has changed. Immigrants aren't treated as humans, they get belittled and forced to succumb to poor working conditions in order to support their families.

Rich people were really rich, while the poor were really poor and I don't see differences with that and what we see now. We have a lot of homeless people, and we also have billionaires in the population of the country.

One thing that the modern-day world relates to the past that is the gilded age, is that the wealthy still "own" America. The 1% that is rich hangs above the population that is still poor and struggling. The era of the gilded age is not all rotten and decay though, great and revolutionary innovations developed during this time (elevators, skyscrapers, kitchen appliances), and the future followed suit (internet, smartphones, computers).
