Hi everyone, my name is Arina, and I’m glad to welcome you to my blog.

At the moment I’m living in Moscow, studying in 8th grade and having worries about my future. Because of the quarantine my school switched us to distant learning. We’re having online lessons and some To-do works from 10AM to about 4PM, and, fortunately, almost no homework. When I say online lessons I mean kind of lectures on Zoom, platform which we use for video calls and other stuff. I like it more than To-do tasks because it’s hard for me to motivate and organise myself now, I procrastinate and feel pessimistic, and it might be because of all stressful things happening in the world.

My daily routine had changed enough, but I like it. Now I have much more free time, spend days in cozy, comfortable for me conditions. I wake up at 9AM and don’t have to waste time on getting to school anymore. I hope next Saturday I will have a chance to go to my dad's dacha and relax there.

This blog is one of my English To-do tasks. I expect to improve my writing skills and learn how to make eye-catching works, I will really go for it.

So how is your quarantine going and how long do you think it will last??

Obviously money is important and necessary to have in our world thing, but is it as important as some of us may think?

Firstly, money indicates the worth of a product but doesn't have worth itself. Money is a tool to simplify the exchange of goods and services. However, it may simply and fast lose their value for example during crisis, but goods and services won’t. Next point is that money, philosophically, can’t buy everything. Relationships, love you get from friends and family. It can’t be there for you when you’re sad, cheer you up.

But on the other hand money generates power and authority, it is the indicator of success. By buying expensive things you can show your status and financial position. Finally, it’s debatable, but money can make people happy. Let’s consider an example - think of things that make you happy. There will most likely be a house, a roof over your head; food, drinks, clothes; maybe the new Netflix show or ivi film; security and safety. This all costs money.

From the above facts, I conclude that money is important. Definitely it is not the most important thing, but the basic one which is used for almost everything.

One day two classmates met at the cafe to do their school project. Suddenly a cool idea came to their minds - they decided to make a dictionary of idioms.

so which phrase is next?

I think "to go Dutch" is perfect example. Do you know what it's mean?

no

try to guess

Maybe go to a flower shop? because I associate Netherlands with tulips, as it is the biggest supplier of tulips in the world.

Not really, but it was a nice guess. Before I knew the meaning I thought same. One more chance?

Hmmm…..

a penny for your thoughts

What? Is it someway connected to the “go Dutch” idiom? A hint?

No of course not. They are two different phrases… by the way this one is an idiom too!

Are you joking? I am at a dead end! And what now? Do you want me to explain both?

Wait, I can give you a hint, using real life situation. At the moment we are eating at the cafe and then we will have to pay the bill. Do you want us to go Dutch or will you pay for both of us?

Oh I think I got it. It means to divide the amount of payment between us. Like everyone pays for themselves, equally.

Yes it is!

Okay, but, after all you didn’t explain me that phrase about a penny. Did you want to pay me for my thought?.

No I did not. You just were so silent for a while and I decided to push you.

M? How can be silence connected with a penny? It isn't funny joke. Tell me the truth!

But I didn't lie. Look, a cambridge article. “penny for your thoughts - said when you want to know what another person is thinking, usually because they have been quiet for a while".

To me quotation "The finest inheritance you can give to a child is allow it to make its own way, completely on its own feet" means that parents should give their kids freedom to choose who they want to be, let them find themselves and fight their own way to achieve stated goals.

I agree with the statement. I think that parents don't have a right to speak and decide for their children, no matter how good were their intentions. They may help, give advices, but not determine future of kids. Also this quotation says that children should be more independent, work hard to achieve their goals, go through difficulties, and I agree with it.

However peolpe may disagree with the quotation, because sometimes it is better to give children some things, instruments, that will help them in the future as an inheritance, rather than just leave them eith freedom. But this anyway won't make sence if parents will controll their children.
