Stanza and Rhyme

There is no rhyme scheme or stanza organization within this poem. I believe that the writer did this to make the poem flow more easily and nicely without having to worry about rhyming the words together and if it would be distracting to the reader. The flow of the poem is also most likely why there are no stanzas so there wouldn't be any breaks to disrupt it. There is also rhyme scheme which might have made it hard to find a point to break it up into stanzas.

I feel like the entire poem is a tension because it is supposed to be describing love or the poem about love for someone yet the poem describes something so traditionally scary and violent we wouldn't really associate it with the soft, passionate, and gentle way we usually think of love.
The place of most contrast and tensions in the poem is the last thought of the poem where the writer says 'get our shoes soaked we must grab each other'. Getting your shoes soaked does not sound like a very good time and would actually bum a lot of people out if it happened to them but the though of grabbing someone you love is so warm and comforting to be paired with the soaking of shoes creates a very wonderful picture of the good overshadowing the bad.

This poem creates such a beautiful picture to me which is one of the main reasons why I chose it. The first two lines, 'I want to write you a love poem', gives imagery of a scene that is light and airy, that smells good and has birds chirping while angles sing around two people in love. While the rest of the poem creates this violent rush of water barreling down its path, splashing over and consuming anything and everything in its path. The airiness and the birds go quiet until our lovers can come back together to save each other from the water that is getting closer to them. As we come back and focus on our couple the water begins to calm down as if it had not just cleared out everything around it. It laps gently up over the bank and the lightness and love come back as our couple hold each, embracing and loving, and laughing, enjoying every second together even if their shoes do get wet.

Memories

1. The first memory that comes to mind is the first time I hung out with my now boyfriend, this memory is the reason why I chose this poem. I remember I was so nervous because we had mainly been texting and only had one Facetime call before hanging but I knew I wanted to date him and I knew I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life, all I could hope was that he felt the same. Before I hopped in his car, because he was picking me up, it felt like my nerves was the river and any positive thought I had was being swept away by them but then the moment I got into the car they all disappeared like in the final lines of the poem, it felt like all the brightness and light came back and knew that he was my person and I had nothing to worry about with him.

2. The second memory I think of is when I drove a little over 3 hours to see my boyfriend who was a way at a different college at the time. I was driving at night and I was by myself which was very scary and it felt like every sound outside the car was a threat to me. While driving I just felt alone and scared because I had no one to talk to but I knew it would all be worth it in the end, and it was. When I arrived, I felt so safe and warm and happy and even if I knew I would have to leave in that moment when we were together there was no worry in my mind.

3. The last memory this poem makes me think of is just how much I want to do for the people I love. The first two line of the poem are what strike me into remembering how willing I am to buy my loved ones something or help them out and see them when ever I get the chance and only hope that I can make it as great as the river is after thawing. It makes me remember how scary the holiday times are for me because I want everything to be great and I want them to love everything they get.

Speaker

This speaker is someone very much in love and in a healthy relationship. They are very articulate so I do believe they were raised in an environment where they had access to a lot of different reading and media to give types of imagery and grammar to use to express themselves and their ideas. I also believe that they are highly educated due to their use of vocabulary like 'scruple' and 'headlong'. Due to their description of the river and the language around it, I believe that the speaker lives close to the creek and has for many years while being in this relationship to where they have the force of it first hand. There seems to be no negative emotion within the poem so the speaker is very passionate and happy about where they are in life and in the relationship they are in.

To me this poem is unbelievably because it incases how I feel in my current relationship and how true love feels in the most beautiful. The first time I read it I had to sit for a little because it but into words how I feel and things I have wanted to say but never knew how to say it. This poem is a beautiful representation of what love is and how it feels and makes you long for it if you don't have and makes you appreciate it and never want to lose it if you do have it. I feel like if everyone read this poem the world would be a better place because we would all be looking for this kind of love and only ever wanting to feel that and we wouldn't want to hate of fight each other. If everyone read this they would be reminded of how beautiful of a world this is and how blessed we are to be able to find a love like this, either with a person or something else. This poem is the perfect depiction of true and pure love.
