The song “No le Pegue a la Negra” by Colombian singer Joe Arroyo is a powerful salsa anthem that mixes history, culture, and social resistance. It tells the story of slavery in Cartagena during the 1600s, when African men and women were brought in chains by Spanish colonizers. In the lyrics, Joe Arroyo denounces the abuse and mistreatment of enslaved people, focusing on the story of a black man who defends his wife after she is beaten by their master. The phrase “No le pegues a la negra” (“Don’t hit the black woman”) becomes a cry of dignity, respect, and justice, not only for women but for the African heritage and identity. Through its rhythm and message, the song transforms pain into resistance and gives voice to the fight against oppression.

🎤 Listen up, yo, I’m bringing the truth,

In my land violence can’t rule the youth.

No more hitting, no more cries, break the chain,

Respect for women, stop the pain.

🎤 Don’t you hit the woman, let her live in peace,

Her dignity and rights will never cease.

Love means respect, not control or fear,

Hip-hop with awareness, the message is clear.

🎤 We raise our voice, from Cali to the world,

Against the violence, a new future is built.

Equality and justice, that’s the fight we bring,

Together as a people, united we sing.

🎶 Don’t hit the woman, no more pain,

Respect and hope, that’s love’s name.

From the barrio to the stage, we shout it proud,

Colombian hip-hop, we say it loud. 🎶

Indie Bog-La hermnanastra más fea

The song "Indie bog" seems to be an ironic critique of a young, privileged person ("burguesito incomprendido") who superficially expresses sadness and loneliness. While they lament about things like running out of cigarettes, it contrasts with the deeper struggles faced by many Colombians: poverty, inequality, violence, and lack of opportunities.

It exposes a social contradiction: some complain about trivial personal issues, while others deal with systemic injustices. In Colombia, this speaks to the gap between privileged social classes and marginalized communities who experience real struggles. The song highlights how privilege can sometimes blind people to the structural problems around them.
Yeah… Colombia, listen up.
Privilege talks loud, but the streets talk louder.

Verse 1:
All of my lyrics say I’m so depressed,
cryin’ for my vices while the poor can’t rest.
Ran outta smokes, I’m losing my chill,
they run outta bread, can’t pay the bill.

I’m in my bubble, pretending I’m broke,
while kids in the barrio choke on the smoke.
Talking ’bout loneliness, talking ’bout pain,
but people are dying for minimum wage.

Chorus (autotune, catchy):
I’m a misunderstood rich kid,
cryin’ for nothing, while they hustle to live.
I’m a misunderstood rich kid,
lost in my world, but the struggle’s too real.

Verse 2:
Writing sad songs in a coffee shop seat,
but farmers got bullets instead of their wheat.
Talkin’ ’bout sorrow, talkin’ ’bout fears,
they talk ’bout justice, no one ever hears.

I’m lost in my feelings, drowning in doubt,
but whole communities keep fighting it out.
The gap is so wide, reality’s split,
I’m blind in my comfort; they bleed in the streets.

Chorus (trap beat heavy):
I’m a misunderstood rich kid,
cryin’ for nothing, while they hustle to live.
I’m a misunderstood rich kid,
lost in my world, but the struggle’s too real.

Outro (spoken, fading):
Colombia’s pain is not just a song…
It’s the silence you ignore when you’re singing along.
