I was surprised to learn about the fighting in Sudan. I learned to appreciate the peace we have in America. I am thankful that we do not have wars here currently.
It connects to my life because the part from Nya's point of view showed how lucky we were to have accessible water. It connected to my life when at the end of the day Salva was exhausted and ready to go home.

These chapters connect to my life because they made me remember how lucky I am to live in the US and be able to live (so far) without war and violence. I was surprised to learn that Nya's shoes (if she had any) were so thin that a thorn could pierce them and get stuck in her heel.

Today work connects to my life because when I was little my family and I had to walk to a place to get some water and it was a distance. I was surprised to learn that they have scars to know in what type of village they are in. It also shows me how lucky we are to have a good home and a good country. This also shows me that it difficult in other places that it is hard to live. It surprises me that how people that do not know each other can help each other.
