According to Jandt, F. (2013) The study of communication via smell is called olfatics. Smell is one of the most powerful senses in non-verbal communication, through it we obtain a lot of information, both from the past, since a smell can bring back memories of our childhood and emotions, and from the present by detecting environmental hazards, such as smoke or humidity.

The smell is what allows man to begin to interrelate with the outside world since this sense is the first exchange relationship of the Human Being because it consists of uniting with himself a substance of the world, and through it, perceiving it. To get an idea of the relationship between smell and interculturality, we are going to take the example of France, and the popular myth: "European people do not bathe", and we are going to listen to some French people talk about this stereotype. In the video, most French people acknowledge having heard this stereotype, but many deny it and say it is a farce.
In this, we can conclude how the individual idiosyncrasy that translates into a greater or lesser tolerance towards certain odors, responds to personal experiences that cause some odors to be recognized as more unpleasant than others. These preferences may also depend on the aesthetic refinement of some people's sense of smell as well as on their culture. We know that the anthropology of the senses deals mainly with how the pattern of sense experience varies from one culture to another according to the meaning and emphasis assigned to each of the perceptual modalities. It is also concerned with tracing the influence that such variations have on forms of social organization, conceptions of the self and the cosmos, the regulation of emotions, and other domains of cultural expression.
