Due to these big industrial based changes the impact of the world’s climate would soon be forever changed and effected but the harsh impacts industrialization would bring to the environment. During the Industrial Revolution, many changes became apparent such as the invention of the cotton gin, basic machines, railroad tracks and the demand for coal. Some of these changes are described in our class text as it mentions that “the new higher quality “pig iron” could be used to make the machines, engines, railway tracks, agricultural implements, and hardware that became, literally, the infrastructure of industrialization” Cole & Symes, p. 647. It is evident that as the world began to change and became more industrialized due to creation of such machinery there would have to be some sort of environmental impact even if it were not foreseen at the time. Clearly the impact of the Industrial Revolution kick started concepts such as pollution and environmental damage due to machinery creating and mass usage of natural materials.

During this period, many technological advances were made in an attempt to expand with how the rest of the world was growing. It was within this time that the steel industry began to take off, electricity became more widely accessible, and countries began to see more profit coming from the advances, making the changes even more drastic as they became the center of political conversation. It is also clear that as these changes and advances in industry took hold and spread all over the world that “the population continued to grow” and that “areas were electrified, powering subways, tramways, and railroads” Cole & Symes, p. 798,799. Population has an impact on climate in that they more people there are, the greater the need for natural resources and usage of these resources are. This means more pollution and damage to the Earth’s environment. Electricity paved the path for continued use of resource that would slowly add damage as well.

This would in turn have a huge impact on climate and the overall environment of the area because it means that with less people having the option to farm naturally on their own land, the government would have more power to use industrial machinery and natural resources in a negative way that would cause potential damage to climate. The overall point of this event is that government began to play a larger role in creating negative environmental influences and impacts.

This war caused physical damage to the world through the use of bombs and other destructive elements. Not only did the actual acts of war cause damage to the environment and add to the growing problem of climate change but is also created a war of production. The class text mentions that “production-churning out tanks, planes, bombs, and supplies – was essential to winning the war” Cole and Symes, p. 947. The creation and utilization of mass production hurt the environment again through the use of natural materials and aftereffects of industrial pollution. While all these things seemed necessary at the time, no one really thought about what kind of impact it would have on climate change in the future.

The French essentially destroyed the culture of Hanoi and used its people as near slaves. Because the Vietnamese had previously exhibited a lifestyle based off natural elements, and then when the French colonized them, they destroyed most of their natural resources and built big cities that were factory and industry based. This brought more pollution and used what was left of the natural resources. It was a shame to see the changed that the French brought to Hanoi, as a previously well-kept land was turned into an area meant to industrialize and therefore hurt the environment.
