It helps students develop grapheme–phoneme correspondence by recognising letters and linking them to their sounds. It also supports blending, as learners combine individual sounds to read simple words, and segmenting, when they break words into phonemes for spelling.

Additionally, the visual and interactive format promotes multisensory learning, increasing engagement and helping students retain letter–sound relationships more effectively.

Zaida del Pino Benítez Martel.

In this activity, students worked on segmenting and blending using body parts vocabulary (head, arm, leg, hand, foot, eye, ear, nose, mouth, neck).

First, we identified the sounds in each word and segmented them orally using clapping. Then, students wrote the words on mini whiteboards, breaking them into individual sounds (e.g. h-ea-d, n-o-s-e).

Finally, we checked and corrected the words together, providing feedback and reinforcing correct grapheme–phoneme correspondences.

This activity helped students improve their phonological awareness, spelling, and confidence when reading and writing in English.

They read a short text, identify the words with the /ai/ sound, and sort them according to spelling patterns such as ai, ay and ey. The worksheet also includes a short writing task so they can use one of the words in their own sentence. It could work well as a short follow-up activity after reading practice.

Néstor Santana.

This visual resource supports the teaching of blending and segmenting CVC words in a clear and engaging way. It provides a step-by-step guide for students, starting with identifying individual sounds, then blending them to read words (example s–i–t = sit), and finally segmenting words into sounds for spelling.

The resource includes visual cues, sound boxes, and simple examples to help students connect phonemes with graphemes. It also offers guided practice and independent tasks, allowing learners to read, build, and write CVC words. This makes the activity more accessible, especially for early readers and mixed-ability classrooms.

Your work consists of a short story in English designed to practice the short /a/ sound using a Synthetic Phonics approach. The story is about a friendly crocodile who loves apples, allowing for natural repetition of key words containing the /a/ sound (such as apple, am, and, etc.). Through an engaging and meaningful context, it helps students identify, hear, and practice this sound, supporting both phonological awareness and early reading skills in a motivating way.

Since we were working on the topic of INSECTS, I decided to introduce phonics by making a quick sound recognition activity.

In the lesson we first classified all together lots of insects by its beginning sound (B, A, S, F, L). Then, I presented the worksheet and, again, we did and example all together to reassure everyone understood the activity.

Finally, they had to do the activity on their own. Each letter is one colour so that the can visually remember the beginning sound of the pictures and it also allows me to visually check if it is correct.

This resource is a collection of six short phonics stories designed for early readers, each focusing on a specific sound from Group 3 (g, o, u, l, f, b). The stories use simple language, repetition, and rhythm to support phonemic awareness, blending, and early decoding skills. They are intended to be used in interactive reading sessions, allowing students to identify target sounds, practise blending and segmenting, and gradually build confidence in both reading and writing. Made by Naomi Méndez García.

This resource includes six original short stories for children aged 7–9 (Year 3–4). Each story focuses on a specific Group 3 phoneme (ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or) and uses repetition, rhythm, and simple descriptive language to help students improve their listening skills and phonemic awareness. The stories are designed to be used in an AICLE classroom, either for storytelling, reading aloud, or small group activities. They are clear, engaging, and easy to follow, making them suitable for both teachers and students as part of a shared phonics resource bank.

Canva link: https://www.canva.com/design/DAHDXZ4Pcgw/AGw7SxDr7ObKtkiLv8QUSw/edit?utm_content=DAHDXZ4Pcgw&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

In the lesson we first classified all together lots of insects by its beginning sound (B, A, S, F, L). The goal is to facilitate students' transition from sound segmentation to decoding and orthographic mapping (the connection between sounds and letters). This material includes cards where the complete CVC word (e.g., "sat", "pin") is printed below the image, allowing for self-correction. The kit includes four key components: the engine templates with individual letters (/s, a, t, i, p, n/), a grid with image and word cards, a "Mapping Depot Mat" designed to guide the mapping and building process, and differentiated tactile visuals to support struggling learners.

This is a short story I created to work on simple vocabulary and sound awareness in a CLIL context. It focuses on basic words and repetition, and it can be used to practise reading aloud and identifying sounds in words. It is adapted to secondary students, using simple language but meaningful content.

The Big Bag
"Sarah had a big bag.
She carried many books every day.

“It’s too heavy,” her friend said.

One day, she dropped it and everything fell on the floor.
She realised she didn’t need all those things.

The next day, she brought only what she needed.
Her bag was lighter, and she felt better.

Sometimes, less is more".

First, on the left side, cards with letters and pictures are placed to help children associate each sound with its visual representation. Next, in the central area, the child uses “sound buttons” to break words down into their different phonemes, promoting the segmentation necessary for writing. Finally, on the right side, the child slides a finger along an arrow to combine the sounds and form the complete word, thereby developing the blending skill necessary for reading.

Arianna Ojeda Marrero.
