Months ahead, unmanned cargo launches and assembly drones are sent to lunar surface to pre-fab parts of habitat, and to LEO to assemble transit craft. These would land on moon using a similar skycrane system used to deliver rovers on Mars.

Reusable rocket boosters such as the Falcon Heavy are used to send payloads up 64 tons to LEO and beyond, for both cargo and crew launches. The boosters would self-land and be reused, similar to SpaceX/Blue Origin current designs

Using similar tech to SpaceX dragon capsule, crews would be launched into LEO, dock with ISS for a holding zone, then transfer to transit craft when ready

Chariot is a large, modular spacecraft that transports crew from LEO to lunar orbit. It is made up of the Orion command module, a service/storage module, and a lunar lander.

Chariot stays in orbit around moon for duration of lunar portion of mission, acts as another communication relay if necessary to contact lunar base

Designed to carry full crew (up to 6), but operate with minimum 1-2 while others are on lunar surface for base missions, similar to how crew were divided during Apollo missions

Carries additional supplies/fuel for Lunar Module to bring down to base, but major cargo supplies would be done by separate autonomous craft

Orion CM is not suppose to be designated re-entry vehicle, as crew would use what is sent to ISS by next mission's crew, but can serve as a backup/abort vehicle if necessary

Why modular design > over a concept like Starship? Completely reusable large craft that perform re-entry often, like shuttles, can have minor heat shield defects over time that result in disaster like Columbia. Because Hermes is planned to be a long-term project, using separate, smaller re-entry vehicles that can be checked and repaired more easily avoids such risk.

The descent vehicle will be the same as the ascent vehicle to moon, similar in design to LM of Apollo missions, but larger and with refueling capabilities, making it a reusable, long-term craft.

The lander will be attached to the outside of the Chariot, making it easy to maintain/repair when the craft returns to LEO. It would also be replaced with a new lander every couple of missions if necessary, due to mission requirements or if new designs were to be tested

Method of descent would be similar to Apollo landers or use thrust vectoring boosters similar to starship design since these are proven technologies, but other organization's designs could be used too.

It is designed to carry 4 crew members as well as the supplies required for the mission not set up at the base
