Going out of order from what the book lists, a biblical myth covers a wide range of human situations more than the others on the list. Traits of a myth are physical, sexual, psychological, and spiritual. An example of this could be Adam and Eve and the story of Moses.

Shakespeare has written plenty of stories that correlate to the traits of a myth. Stories that science and mathematics cannot explain like when someone can use magic to try to make things work like in The Tempest when Prospero conjures storms and frees sprites from trees.

This helps the reader better understand what is going on. An example is the story of Hansel and Gretel.

By using other known works, it brings irony. Since fairy tales/children's stories are so simplistic, when used in a more complicated matter, they become ironic. An example of this is The Bloody Chamber (1979). These stories use fairy tales to show sexism and culture found in them.

Readers expect and know whats going to happen from reading fairy tales. They want something familiar and new. Familiar in images, themes, and basic plot. If an author can combine the two, then depth is added to the text and the reader's experience. For example, the reader knows what to except of Alice in Wonderland. By finding the reference in other literature, the reader than can ask -why is the author making this connection?
