Recording :???
Today I´d like to talk about mental health during isolation.

Based on Elena Sanchez Nicolas, article from 27 March 2020 https://euobserver.com/coronavirus/147903 and Emma Grey Ellis article, from 26 March 2020 https://www.wired.com/story/coronavirus-covid-19-isolation-psychology/.

In the middle of March the World Health Organization WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic, since that a lot of subjects has been spoken, for example how to protect yourself from COVID-19, how to prevent to spread the virus, how to manage the coronavirus in the workplace and wath effect could quarantine or isolation have on your mind.

The director of the European branch of the WHO, Hans Kluge said on Thursday (26 March) that “Isolation, physical distancing, the closure of schools and workplaces are challenges that affect us, and it is natural to feel stress, anxiety, fear and loneliness at this time," and warning on the countries for attention.

Fortunately, science, already knows the impacts of social isolation on our bodies and minds, because it has been studied in a variety of different groups, from astronauts, prisoners, immunocompromised children, antarctic researchers and elderly. The patterns that have emerged from their experiences with radical aloneness illuminate ways to understand and improve your own and this situation” Says Grey (2020).

According to Lawrence Palinkas, who researches psychosocial adaptation to extreme environments at the University of Southern California, we can expect depression in coronavirus isolation, “Oftentimes, if you have a very well defined period of time in which you are isolated, people do pretty well up until the halfway point. Then they experience a let down. But when you’re in a situation like we are now, when you don’t know yet how long you’ll be asked to maintain social distance, that produces anxiety as well”

But never feel alone because we are not alone. First off, take advantage of this time, avoid unhealthy habits like cigarettes and trash food, you will need to be well when it finally ends, keep children off iPad and TV, and exercise them regularly, take a shower in the morning and make a schedule for every day, be creative and don’t forget your family, give them a call or write a letter, strengthen those weak connections.
