Out of 4 elevators with access to the factory floor, only one elevator that was fully operational. The only other alternative was to walk down a long flight of stairs. There also was fire escape but it was so narrow that it would take hours for all of the workers to escape.

Some of them rushed to the only operational elevator to escape but their attempts backfired because the elevator broke down due to the excess amount of weight. Others escaped through the fire escape on time. Some victims were actually lucky enough to on the roof and escape by jumping over to another building. Others unfortunately, either jump off the building and die from the fall or just perished in the fire, which resulted in the deaths of 145 workers
