As a child, she was friends with future writer and partner Truman Persons/Capote, and was a tomboy, often being able to fight off other boys. Her dad was a lawyer, while her mom had mental issues. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Multiple Plotlines<br></strong>Scout, Jem, and Dill explore a mysterious person in their neighborhood, and this conveys the theme of growing up.<strong><br><br></strong>Scout's father, Atticus, tries to help a black man from being convicted from a crime he did not commit, which conveys the theme of racial injustice and prejudice. <br><br>Harper Lee based Scout, the story's central character, on herself, and Scout's dad, Atticus, was largely based on Lee's father, a lawyer. <br>After 4 years of writing the book, Harper Lee won the Pulitzer Prize, while the Film Adaptation of the novel won 3 awards.</div>]]></description>

Being easygoing and friendly, Harper Lee was able to interview the townspeople for Capote. <br><br>Lee assisted Capote in taking notes at the trials of the murderers, and the interviews of the townspeople, killers, and local communities. </div>]]></description>

She joined the National Council of the Arts, but in the 70s, she retreated to a private life split between New York City and Monroeville. <br><br>Although she was working on another novel, it never got published, and before she died, she managed to publish a sequel to <strong><em>To Kill a Mockingbird. </em></strong><em><br><br></em>Harper Lee was known to have made many anonymous donations to charitable causes, being active in her church, avoiding the spotlight of her celebrity status.</div>]]></description>
