Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910 in Calcutta. She was baptized on the following day of her birth. Her parents were of Albanian descent. Her father worked as a construction contractor and a trader of medicines and other goods. She was a very devoted catholic and involved herself in all kinds of church activities. Her father suddenly fell ill and died, when she was just eight years old. With the intention of serving and helping the destitute, she joined a convent to become a nun. In May 1931, she made first profession and started her charitable works. In her daily prayer she wrote, "give me the strength to be ever the light of their lives, so that I may lead them at least to you.” She was a great teacher with kindness and generosity. She was very much committed to her students' education by inspiring them to lead them towards Christ. There was a “call within a call" in her life and that totally transformed her life to be the founder of the missionary of charity. She abandoned her teaching and started to care for the sick and poor. Her terrific attitudes and her humility made her so popular during that era. She was well spoken by many for her concerns on the sick and the poorest of the poor. Thus, she won the Noble Peace prize. She was canonized as Saint Theresa of Calcutta in 2016. The Catholic Church still remembers the marvelous works she contributed with commitment for the betterment of the sick and poor during her life without any expectation of reward.
