What "Spirituality" means to me.

Spirituality can be many things. Others can experience it differently but many hold it within themselves. Spirituality is well-being, it's the life within you and its beyond your physical capacity. Spirituality keeps you close with your inner self and others; it gives you a deeper connection and love with yourself that others may not have. Keeping a healthy mind and body and knowing your worth is a good way to keep spiritual.
To me Spirituality is the smell of fresh summer rain and the touch of the morning dew on your skin; its the taste of snowflakes in your mouth on the first snowfall. it's seeing joy through your eyes without having to try; All of the things that bring you warmth and happiness inside.

I chose this song by Joan Osborne as well because she speaks of a world where god could be anywhere and everywhere. although i'm not very religious, I connect with this song because I too believe that whoever is watching over us, isn't just somewhere above us but living in the world round us; much like us he or she has their flaws and faults but in the end, we're all human.

"Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony."

I chose this verse because much like many people, when I'm in pain or suffering I often seek the help of a higher power to help heal me or make me feel better. When I was diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety disorder, PTSD and an eating disorder, I felt like my mind and body was shutting down. I prayed to god day in and day out but then realized I can only pray for so much healing until I needed to start healing on my own.

I chose this song by the creator NF because he isn't talking about relying on another someone for help or prayer; he's saying, "if you want something in life why don't you go and get it". He tells people that they shouldn't care what others think and always be there for yourself mentally and physically because in the end, you're the one thats there for you.

Before I moved down to Cobourg, my father and his side of my family taught me the ancient teaching of the Spirit Circle and our own Asselin twist on it, (Asselin was my old last name).
My family sat around a bonfire and burn sage; we passed around a "Talking Stick" and made our own prayer on the spot to the spiritual animals inside us. we would ask them for strength, courage and healing. This was done so you could become closer to your mind and body as well as get a sense of who you were inside.

(This is closest photo of the talking stick I could find)
My family actually decided to make our own spirit stick; we got pretty creative and cut a hockey stick in half, sanded and rounded each end and covered it in red dyed burlap. we then collected feather we found in our yard and tied them to string with added beads; then we branded our last name in the side with a wood burner.
The Spirit Stick is your gateway to talk to the spirits that may be listening. you cannot speak or be spoken to unless you have the stick in your possession. When you have the talking stick you are free to say and think and feel whatever you would like without judgement from your tribe. The stick is your time to heal.

The Raven is a symbol of strength, courage and most of all, TRANSFORMATION.
I am the Raven because throughout my life I've grown and transitioned many ways that a young girl should never have to go through; but I did and I turned my suffering and pain into glorious wings.

I plan to get a Raven tattooed on my right shoulder blade to symbol my strength and transformation to go along with my Semi-Colon tattoos thats on my left hand wrist.
