Next year, we should make sure to engage students in the use of critical thinking. Also, we should implement the use of inquiry-based learning. Inquiry based learning allows student's engagement at school and at home. This gives students the opportunity to use exploration and investigation to answer questions and solve real world problems in a positive way. Moreover, as school we should implement the use of questioning and discussions among students. This is very beneficial to expand student's thinking. Furthermore, we should keep WINN period after lunch, because it is important to show students the importance of reading even if it is for fun.

While good attendance is important, focusing solely on it does not guarantee student learning or success (Monthly Attendance Celebration). Our current system rewards students just for showing up, even if they are not fully engaged or making academic progress. To truly support our students and improve our school’s performance, we must shift our focus toward academic achievement and growth. Recognizing students for their effort, improvement, and excellence in subjects like reading, math, and writing sends a clear message that learning matters most. This shift not only motivates students to take pride in their education, but also creates a more positive and achievement-driven school culture. By celebrating academic success on a monthly basis, we can inspire students to set goals, challenge themselves, and ultimately improve our overall school performance.

To our school around and build a culture of excellence, we must place accountability at the center of everything we do—starting with students, staff, and parents/guardians. When each group understands and embraces their role in the success of our school community, meaningful progress can happen. Students must be held accountable for their learning, behavior, and effort in the classroom. Staff must be consistent, prepared, and committed to high expectations and strong instruction. Parents and guardians must stay engaged, communicate with teachers, and reinforce the importance of education at home. Accountability is not about blame—it’s about ownership. By setting clear expectations, tracking progress, and working together, we can create a culture where everyone takes responsibility for student success and school improvement.

Basics. UFLI is excellent but sadly it's only for K-2. There are MANY upper grade students that could benefit from it.

September could be for focusing on the basics. Yes, the basics of reading, writing, and math. We could focus on some reading, writing, and math drills. We can review things that teachers know their students need in order to be successful with the first module across the subjects.

This way we begin the curriculum in October and at least have some routines packed and ready to go.

Also PLEASE provide us with ALL the materials we need during the first week of school....not the end of September or mid-October.

And if that's not possible- maybe that's more of a reason to begin modules in October.

Though pedagogy is a prime focus, factors outside the classroom have an effect on student learning. Specifically I am thinking about student arrival in the morning and behavioral expectations in the lunch room. Students come up stairs well before teachers arrive and are unsupervised for 10 and sometimes 20 minutes.

The limits of staff in the lunchroom makes for a chaotic and sometimes dangerous environment. Not to mention the mess.

Though these two times of the day are relatively short, as they are the biggest social moments of the day for the students and therefore play an outsized role in the minds of our students. More staffing or clearer expectations and protocols would have a positive effect on student outcomes.

Students must be vested in their own education and success. Right now, students show up but are not really interested or invested in their learning. Having a solid block of time for morning meeting (many students don't arrive on time so 15 minutes from 8:15-8:30 on some days isn't enough).

I am not sure how successful WINN period the way we did it last year was optimal. Maybe a more structured approach for all groups would be more effective. Engaging parents in more frequent ELA and Math workshops as to what we are covering and how they can support would be helpful. Rewarding academic excellence rather than just attendance parties for those who are here but not "here" is better. Having longer periods for math because IM is heavy on exploration. We could also utilize centers more often for both ELA and Math. To create the JOY in learning, we must have JOY ourselves. We should have the excitement. It is contagious so having curriculum support earlier in the year is better than later so we can be exciting right out of the gate. A more structured SEL curriculum perhaps 3 days a week if possible. Lastly, the read aloud after lunch was something the students looked forward to. Especially when families read to the classes and interclass readings were also amazing. Could we do more collaborative work across grades to build more community? IE, partner PK with 4, K with 5, 1 and 2 with 3 etc?

More vertically aligned planning by discipline would be ideal so we can support each other (at least once every couple of months?).
