Historical fiction needs to be written in a way that young people can connect and relate to. Reading about someone their age going through historical events allows readers to sympathize with the character. Children didn't fully understand the devastation that took place during WW2 but with the story of a 14-year-old girl transported to Poland during WW2, she experiences first hand how Jewish people were displaced from their homes and sent to concentration camps. When modern day characters are transported back through time, the reader is forced to come to terms with the reality of what occurred.
