In my teaching I have students compare open repositories with AI as sources of educational content. It’s a powerful learning experience.

As a writer and editor I have negotiated open access for key papers and special issues.

I write and speak about how GenAI at scale is the enemy of openness.

I blog but I no longer use academic social media and I’m aware it makes my content less open and less accessible.

I am attempting to move away from Sharepoint to libguides so I can be public.

I am writing an oer policy in the hopes management move it forward.

I will look to see if my first publication can be open.

I support community-led open publishing via Edinburgh Diamond and develop open source publishing infrastructure via Scurl's Open Community Hosting (https://library.ed.ac.uk/research-support/open-hosting-service) for journals and books from Scottish universities.

I am always happy to help students explore their own interests, furthering their learning outside the curriculum through my active listening to them, sharing my experiences either the knowledge I have learnt or skills I have developed. I am making handouts accessible to all learners promoting them to our students and graduates, and encouraging lifelong learning

I did an #openthesis, I blog, I publish in (and only review for) OA journals. On LinkedIn, Bluesky. Occasionally write for/ edit Wikipedia :-)

Student Showcase of Open Projects

One of my projects is working on a student showcase for open projects, which include things like a student newspaper, and align sharing openly with reward and recognition.

This year's showcase is still open for entries until September - so encourage your students to submit their projects :)

The university is a member of the Open Education Network, which is based in Minnesota. They host the Open Textbook Library and the UK and Ireland region of this network has created a UK&Ireland corner with 107 open textbooks that are on UK&I reading lists.

At Edinburgh Diamond, we're setting up our own policies such as around AI usage for our authors / editors. We're hopefully changing things by demonstrating the efficacy of community-led open publishing and open source software for HE publishing.
