I've been teaching all students from Kg to grade 5 - roughly 250. And it now feels like time for a change so ... From September '17 I will teach less Art and more EAL. I want to further my knowledge of how to encourage children's creativity and how to help them develop their understandings of who they are. The idea of 'Having a go' and trying things out and learning from when things don't turn out quite how they expected straight away are things that I try to cultivate. I want to bring the creativity that I encourage through the art into the classroom and help to promote it through the UOI and curricular areas. I am a "specialist", originally a drama teacher, but the last 3 years active in visual arts (pre-k to grade 2) and music (grade 2 till 5), where my heart lies.
I graduated as a singer/actress in Music Theater in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and later on graduated as a drama/theater teacher.
I am very curious and hopeful that in this workshop I can practice tools that help me incorporate music with the UOI AND the standards - set by (in my case) National Core Art Standards. But also to get new insights in how to stimulate and nurture creativity in busy classrooms, how to measure and report.

I am a 4th grade teacher at ICS Madrid so no guesses for whom the colleague is referring to in Nualas post😉. I've been working in grade 4 for 7 of the 8 years that I've been at ICS. Every year has been different although the UOI's have remained the same, but now we are focusing more on the skills rather than the content so this workshop has my name written on it.
My ongoing challenge is how to motivate students that feel that they have little to offer in the way of creativity and to manage the classroom when it seems creativity is the only focus of the students and therefore the content gets left behind.
