My question concerns a job application for a security officer post. At the point of application, the prospective employer requests the applicant’s NRIC number and a few other personal information. 

The reason given is that the application needs to be first vetted by police licensing department and the requested data is needed. 

Is there any contravention? What should be the employer’s good practices in this case?
