I mixed both warm and cool colors throughout my piece to give it contrast and balance. I started off this piece drawing many hands in ebony pencil. I used the repetition of hands as the main subjects of this piece. I added oranges as my deconstructed object because I thought the peel looked very interesting when it was unwrapped with all the twist and curves. Also, I liked the idea of using orange and blue together because they are opposite colors on the color wheel. While creating this piece I was very surprised seeing how many colors you can actually use to make a realistic color. In my orange, I used: blue, red, white, orange, green, and yellow. Eventually I decided on having hair growing to become roots. Also, as I drew this piece I saw that it could also represent the flow of thought. In the background I added dispersing multicolored triangles to again symbolize thoughts. My main subject was a character I made up in my head and I chose to work with a face because I've been practicing with them lately. I did three different complementary color groups to really practice and play around with the idea as much as I could. For the first two sections I used marker on cardboard. The first section I started with was the elephant in the lefthand corner. I used the split complementary colors of: red, purple, and a yellow green. As I drew this piece I realized that using only these 3 colors made each one really pop. The next section I worked on was the giraffe and I used dark green, orange, and pink. Lastly, I drew a hunter to and put him on a different paper and used a different medium to distinguish him from the animals. I chose a cold color to really symbolize hunting and death. For the Hunter I used colored pencils: orange, blue, green.
