I will be using this platform to reflect as an online educator and the Online Teaching Standards of Idaho. First, I will describe the standard and what it means. Then, using a scale of 1-5, one needing improvement, two basic, three average, four above average, and a five as a mastered skill will help me evaluate and compare myself to a specific standard. Afterward, I will explain why I rate myself in that manner.

This standard is broken down into three parts: knowledge, disposition, and performance.
<var>Knowledge: </var>
I would rate myself a two in this sub-category. I am currently working on understanding the standards for best practices in online learning. Due to other ISTC classes, I learned the different national standards and incorporated them into our distance learning platform. I am also incorporating different technologies that would promote student learning. During the pandemic, I explored and used various web tools in my classroom. Since I had diverse learners with multiple diagnoses, I had to be more selective with the tools I integrated into my lessons.
<var>Disposition:</var>
I would rate myself a four. I am enthusiastic about how online education could positively impact student learning. I also realize that online education will continue to change over time and see how it will grow.
<var>Performance:</var>
For this sub-category, I would give myself a four. I have strong background knowledge of technologies. I have applied the majority of these technologies that are listed to my classes. I've utilized communication technologies like Zoom, e-mail, and Google Classroom. I've made a virtual classroom on Google Slides that students can navigate for each taught class. I frequently troubleshoot different variations of applications for both my students and my colleagues. I also needed to learn about safety, access, and equity for myself and my students.

For this standard, I would rate myself a four. This part of the standard was one aspect that was carefully considered due to our student population. We were able to create different learning environments during online learning. I was able to adapt both synchronous and asynchronous learning throughout the school. As a class, we were meeting virtually through Zoom. Breakout rooms were utilized and used for group work and projects. I also had students use Google Classroom to navigate independent work and asynchronous learning. Our first concern was the student's social and emotional needs. I integrated multiple times for check-ins. I had a Chat and Chew, where students could eat lunch and socialize with their peers and teachers. I also encouraged them to use our counselor during her virtual schedule during times of need. Second, my student's accommodations needed to be adapted virtually. With chrome extensions like Kami, students with dysgraphia could utilize speech to text. The majority of our students require a multi-sensory output. Brain breaks or movement breaks are consistent throughout our lessons. I've always scheduled a time to move around and have a movement break. During asynchronous classes, I would post short exercise videos or a mindfulness meditation minute to help students reset and learn.

I would rate myself a four for this standard. As I mentioned, our school focuses on a diverse set of learners. I've implemented different web tools to help accommodate my student's needs during distance learning. I've researched different ways to help assist my learners, especially students diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. Also, I've modified other multi-sensory lessons to facilitate an online environment. For example, I've made an interactive online board game connected to our Orton-Gillingham curriculum. This helped students practice the sounds and words they've learned for the day. I've worked with parents by giving them an overview of the week's lessons and what materials they will need. If they do not have this at hand, I could send materials to their homes if necessary.

I would rate myself a three. I am working on making our distance learning more student-centered instruction. There was a huge learning curve with our students that made it more teacher-based. Implementing breakout rooms with no facilitator did not always go according to plan. There was more success in asynchronous discussions than synchronous. I did try to incorporate more web-based tools like PearDeck to enhance interactive lessons. I was able to house all classwork, exit tickets, and homework into Google Classroom where I was able to give quick feedback and gather data in one place.

I would rate myself a four. At the beginning of distance learning, the class went over our internet policy and digital etiquette. This was very important, especially when we were working synchronously. I continuously took attendance during synchronous learning, and I had due dates assigned to their assignments to show that they were working asynchronously. I also ensured all my feedback came between real-time and less than 24 hours. I needed to give my students prompt feedback. This helps my students feel supported.

I would rate myself a four on communication standards. I had to find multiple ways to communicate with my students. A good amount of our population has been diagnosed with a processing disorder of some sort. I had implemented virtual office hours, e-mails, or "chat and chew," where myself and some students would talk during our lunchtime. We also implemented Let's Think About It prompts, where students answer a question that would facilitate discussions among students in a controlled environment.

I would rate myself a five for this standard. First, I am continuing my education in the ISTC program, which helped me grow with the different resources it has provided me. I also continued to work with AISGW ( Association of Independent School of Greater Washington) to collaborate with outside professionals. Also, I collaborated with my staff and team in creating a curriculum map during online learning. This helped us navigate and adapt the curriculum for our learners.

I would rate myself as a five in this category. On top of Friday e-mails sent to parents as an overview of what they've learned during the week, parents were able to view next week's lessons to help prepare their students. Our staff had weekly meetings with administrators and learning specialists to support everyone.
