Students will each be given a piece of bread. The kids will use dyed milk to paint earth on their slice of bread. The kids will be learning to use their creative muscle and will learn about global warming as they go. We'll take a picture of their bread for the before picture and then we will toast the bread. After toasting, we'll take an after picture and talk about the difference. The kids will see how climate change damages the earth and dries out beautiful landscapes. I will create three groups of about eight to ten students to keep costs down and inspire group collaboration. The students will be given a fish bowl where they will create their terrarium. They'll have a selection of  a few different rock types and plants so that they can be creative. They'll put the rocks in first, then the charcoal and soil, and finally the plants. The students will be responsible for watering their plants and keeping it in the sunlight once they're done creating their terrarium. This activity shows how rewarding it can be to connect with nature and watch plants grow. They'll be given a list of bad habits and good habits. The bad habits will include leaving the water running brushing their teeth, drinking bottled water, and throwing out recyclables. Good habits will include recycling, turning off lights before they leave the house, and eating produce. Every time they do one of the bad or good habits, they'll mark it on their list with a tally. At the end of the week they'll create a bar chart of their bad habits and good habits. This will make kids more aware of their habits and will hopefully inspire them to recycle, use less plastic, and use less electricity. I will make one too so that no one feels embarrassed about the bad habits. I will remind them that it's tricky to reduce your footprint and that as long as they're trying their best then they're doing great.
