1. I spend a lot of time researching best practices from teachers all over. I collaborate with those teachers to learn how they implement these practices and work hard to implement them in my own classroom.

2. I think the system gets in the way of providing a world class education. Education in the U.S. works much like a conveyer belt in a factory. We shuffle kids in and out as we hit standards and take tests, often without having the time or resources to see what they've actually learned and understanding how best to teach them as individuals rather than a group. I think this often prevents us from inspiring kids to use their minds and be truly creative. Because of this, we can end up with a generation of button pushers.

What specific things do you do to provide a world class education to our students? I
teach my students math in a way that encourages deeper thinking and
connecting multiple strategies, and even different areas of math. My
students consistently leave my class with a love of reading, which I
attribute to my commitment to read aloud and independent reading, and
not focusing on basal texts. My students leave my class with a strong
understanding of persuasive and non-fiction writing format. What things do we do that stand in our way from providing a world class education? We test WAY too
much, and we're being asked to add more tests every year, by the
school, district, and state. It looks like we may end up being
handcuffed to Wonders, even if we determine that it's not the best for
some things (which is a conclusion that we are coming to).

1. I try to use the interests of the students to encourage them in different subjects in my class. When the students are motivated then they are more willing to learn and that desire pushes them. The connection between what we learn in class and real life makes the skills real and place more importance in their lives.
Also, feedback is essential in our profession. Without feedback and learning from others we can't grow to always provide a world class education for our students.
2. Being unwilling to change in our ways impedes us from reaching that high potential. If we won't try new things then nothing will ever change.
