Gwen.

I am honored that you would ask be these questions. I will do my best to answer them, but I am also happy to meet with you :)

How can I improve in photography?
My best advice for anyone interested in photography is to keep practicing! There are also TONS of online education opportunities online to learn from, creativeLIVE, Front Row, etc. I would also recommend looking for internship opportunities.

Do you have any good photo editing techniques that you use?
We recommend getting an ADOBE subscription. It only costs about $10/month and gives you access to the tools we use in our business. We mostly use Lightroom for editing and Photoshop for retouching and enhancing our images. There are lots of options when it comes to presets in Lightroom and actions in Photoshop to help you work quicker and be more efficient with your image editing/retouching.

What should I use to take my pictures?
When I started, I used film. Nowadays, you can take pretty good images even using phones. I would recommend using a digital SLR camera that allows you to manually adjust the settings in order to help you learn, rather than just shooting using settings on the camera. Have been a Canon user for years, but any of the systems from Nikon to Sony to Fuji have good cameras.

What does photography mean to you?
Photography started as a passion and hobby for me. It has turned into a business and way of life. It is a way for me to express myself creatively, while making a living.

How can I inspire others with my pictures?
Images can be very powerful. Art and imagery have been a source of inspiration for centuries. I think shooting from your heart and using an authentic voice in what you photograph can have the biggest impact on others.

What is something you don’t like in your profession?
The photography industry has changed dramatically over the years. It can sometimes be hard keeping up with technology as well as standing out from the crowd with the increase of photographers over the last few years.

What is something you enjoy doing in your profession?
I love being the one that people trust to capture the fleeting moments in our lives. We don’t get to take any of this stuff with us when we are gone, but we can leave a legacy and wonderful memories for our family and friends through images. I have had many clients lose their homes and loved ones, and they are so grateful that they have the images we have captured for them over the years.

Thanks for reaching out to me Gwen! And let me know if you want to meet or have any other questions :)

I believe that a person’s imagery is a direct reflection of themselves, and/or their lifestyle. Its an expression of the photographer, and so if we approach our art and photography authentically it will reveal our strengths and our imperfections.
