         <description><![CDATA[<div>The American Renaissance was a literary movement capitalized by its emphasis on humanism and its contrast to Calvinism (Second Great Awakening). This Renaissance was mainly driven by Transcendentalist writers, which is why Emerson and Thoreau are considered pioneers of both the Transcendentalist movement and of this literary Renaissance.</div>]]></description>

It's necessary to know the connection and history of different movements around the time of Transcendentalism to give perspective on the movement as a whole.Transcendentalism developed in a pot of different social movements, of which include the W<strong>omen's Rights movement</strong>, the <strong>Second Great Awakening</strong>, and also the <strong>Rationalist movement.</strong></div>]]></description>

Influenced by romanticism, Platonism, and Kantian philosophy, it taught that divinity pervades all nature and humanity, and its members held progressive views on feminism and communal living. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau were central figures.</li></ul>]]></description>

The Rationalist Movement was a philosophical movement that focused greatly on elements of intellect and reasoning: the clear opposite of Transcendentalism.
