Poem: Cat #1

I think the authors message in the poem was the typical day of a cat. In the poem the author said "As the cat climbed over the top of

The jamcloset first the right forefoot

Carefully then the hind stepped down

Into the pit of the empty flowerpot." This quote shows the typical day of a cat. It was peaceful and the cat had nothing to worry about.

On the first page of the book the author gave a creepy tone and vibe. The author wrote "From the street, Adam could see all the warning signs telling him to turn tails and run." I think the author did this beca they wanted to hook the reader and give them some suspense to keep on reading. I also think the words on the page that helped the tone were creepy old house, beast, rotted-out trees and risk.

On this page the author described the beast with descriptive words. I could tell the words were descriptive because I could paint a picture of what the beast looked like. The words that the author used were sniveling, snorting and subhuman. Also at first I did not know what the word subhuman meant. So what I did is divide the word up into sub and human. Then I knew the meaning of sub was under and human was a human. So I put them together and got under-human or below human. Now I understood what it meant.

On this page the author used a form of figurative language called a metaphor. The quote from the book was "Eugene shouted as he tried to bury his scent". This is a metaphor because you can't actually bury a smell and a metaphor is saying something or somebody did do the action. I think the author used this in the book because he wanted to explain to the reader that the character did not want to leave behind traces of him being there. So in turn that is why it is there.

On this page the author used another form of figurative language called an idiom. An idiom is when you exaggerate something so that it makes it unbelievable. For example saying it was raining dogs and cats is an idiom because it did not happen but you exaggerated that it was raining. In the book the author said "Adam turned to look and froze dead in his tracks." I think the author said this because they wanted to exaggerate the fact that the character was scared so they stood still in shock.

The authors tone on this page was more serious and straight to the point because there were a lot of characters talking on the page which probably left no space for the author to slide in some detail or some explanation of whats going on. The words on the page that gave me the authors tone were shrieked, exchanged and celebrate. I think these words gave off the tone because they were towards the simple side.

This is where I think is the most detail in the book because this is where the semi-climax is and where most of the action is located. I also think this because in stories the part of the story leading up to the climax is usually the most detailed. The words that tell me that this is the semi-climax are unearthly, startled, howling and ripped.

I think this is the most suspenseful page in the book because the author wrote a bold statement and then ended off the chapter. The quote from the book was "Dee-Dee and Vanessa let out bloodcurdling screams as laughter echoed from both sides of the street." I think the author added this because they wanted the reader to fill in the gap and let their imagination do the work. They did this also so that the reader would read the next chapter eager to find out what happened.

On this page the author put a form of figurative language called an idiom because the quote in the book was "You're full of cow dung, Adam insisted." This is an idiom because you can't actually be full of cow dung but, the author says he is because he's telling a lie. This is just like saying you have butterflies in your stomach or its raining dogs and cats. It's an exaggeration.

On this page the author used figurative language in the form of onomatopoeia. The way they put it was "an unearthly cry ripped through the air."The sound word in this quote was ripping. I think the author put this in to show how desperate the person who screamed was. Also I think they put this in so the author could show the intensity building up in the story.
