1. The Greatest takeaway is how we take things like newspapers and our word documents for granted because we are so used to them, but back then it was way harder to just produce a sheet of newspaper, like how so much effort and huge machines were used to produce them.

2. Design is revolutionary to all of us because it brings us forward to a brighter future where we can be "lazier" and still produce as good as or better work than we did in the past. Without designers, we wouldn't be having such an easy time printing assignments or reading the news

3. Design is important brings us forward to make our life easier. In Singapore where competition is high, we would like to have our life a little easier to have more time to relax. With design, we can slowly create things that would make our life easier. Like the creation of the vacuum cleaner rather than sweeping the floor everytime.

In the past, everything was done via analog aka by hand.

The documentary focuses on typewriting of newspapers. There were many steps just to achieve a simple font. The process was overall very tiring and tedious.

In today’s generation, we are fortunate to have various softwares by Adobe or Microsoft to instantly design or compose.

Design is very important as it can influence or affect our lifestyles via our environment/surroundings/media.

It can also be an output for some to convey messages or their feelings.

While watching this is realised how spoilt we younger generations are.
2) i have always known how mathematics aid designers but while watching this, i have learned about the various ways of using mathematics in design.
3) while watching i learnt more about the evolution of design. Typing and creating art was not readily made for every citizen. Making a simple newspaper was painstakingly long and irritating. As time went on, every thing became easier and more time efficient. As soon as they "mastered" this profession, the computer came along. The computer was even more time efficient and was available to everyone unlike graphic art or creating fonts where u had to learn the basics. The computer didn't receive good remarks about it but as time went on society learned to adapt to it and everyone benefited from it.

1. My greatest takeaway from this movie was how much effort it takes just to create a layout for a newspaper. The choice of fronts, the spacing between between each letter and process to get the pictures on the paper. It was a tedious and time consuming process which makes me appreciate the technology created today. Printing was such a huge industry and was known for its high complexity and precision. Everything was done, drawn and put together by hand. There were also very limited types of Fonts due to the constraints.
2. Design plays such an important role in every industry. There are endless possibilities that everyone can create something unique. Seeing the evolution of fonts (typography) inspires me to create. Learn that it’s important to move forward be flexible as technology is always changing. To be open-minded unlike New York Times newspaper that continue to produce hot mel until 1978.

It shows us about the alignment and all the difficulties of trying to make it perfect and work.

2. Design is revolutionary in various ways. To me, it’s how it improves day by day. How we can use different methods and combine them together to make something bigger, better and new.
3. Design is how you depict your messages by visual, build, etc. It’s how we people communicate our feeings or even passion. It is important because without it, how can we show what we feel inside?

After watching just about how people in the past have to be very precise on sticking and pasting logos, letter and colours itself. It shows that designers in the previous days are very patient and very calm when doing their design works. As time past, designers have to use new techniques such as from iron pasting to the mecanical. I like that one part of the flim where people have to paste individual pieces together to form a page. But it have to be very precise, also, the paper or page must not be laid down in the hot sun. I am glad that today there is photoshop and illustrator to help me to make a page or poster

After watching the film, i realised why people were against the start of the digital revolution of typography. It was seen as an art though the intricate process and the time took to create it. With the introduction of Macs allowing digital interfaces, the line between traditional typography and typography done on digital interfaces has been blurred as people debate about what is considered real art. With the digital revolution of typography, client expectations for craftsman or artists have also increased as people compare current digital typography to traditional typography and concluded that digital typography took less time and effortsto render a design piece out.

Linotype was also username in all newspapers and most books. I also learned that fonts are how you deliver the design and that fonts must be in negative form/ characters on the front disk. I felt that the movie was interesting that they documented people’s ideas and thought on the inventions! Yeah I am also very satisfied that We now have very good technologies such as computer, iPad and phones which made life much easier.

Technology has allowed us to save multiple hours on details or sketching the font. Arranging the layout, having the WYSIWYG mentality compared to the past, where one mistake can be catastrophic. Due to technology, lesser mistakes are being made and amends could be made within a short time. However, technology takes the jobs of many workers, deeming most people in the old paper industry jobless. Design is mandatory as it really eases the quality of life, making hard and elaborate designs doable by the average human. As such, anyone can be a designer.

From how the elaborate and very industrial process got more and more efficient due to technology. And how eventually the technology managed to cramp so many processes such as typesetting and the arrangements and fonts can be done in a small machine that can be viewed in real time. And now everything is in hd and crystal clear, your ideas can be viewed and changed at a moments notice and how things can be made in a short time

2. Why design is important to me is the fact that it allows me to experiment and show my ideas and create things that i never thought possible. Design also allows me to think in different ways and have a new perspective on many things. Design also let me have an impact in the world around me.

3. Why design is important to the world is that design drives the way to a better and brighter future design also creates many jobs and allows people to connect to each other on a deeper level by analysing design

And when combined, the idea colours will be obtained.
• Later on, more typesetter fonds came from all around the world. For example in the movie, they showed how the first macintosh came about and affected people’s life. Hence i am very grateful to the era that i was borned in.
3. I feel technology is very important to the world. This is because the revolution of different machines affected how the people think. People also didn’t really accepted the new technology since they were very used to the old ways. But after some time the people found ways to use the new technologies and even found ways to improve them. Hence overtime people get used to technology and use it everyday since technology is getting better it makes our lifes easier and we become very dependent on the technology.

1) The greatest takeaway from this movie is that the ways that we are doing to create the product/design that we are supposed to do is way much easier than how it was compared to the past. We need to be appreciative of how technology has improved such that it has help us to create design faster and easier. In the past, you have to start things from scratch such that when you want to print, you have to align and create the letters one by one and by hand. Now, we are able to just our computers and softwares such as Adobe and create the design that we thought of.
2) Since I have entered polytechnic, and into my course, Diploma in Visual Communication amd Media Design (DVMD), design has open my eyes to a lot of the things around me that has once been ignored and not appreciated. I am now more interested of the things around me as how they are created and if I can reproduce it with the skills that I have.
3) Design is important to me and the world as it has shaped as how we look and we do things in many different ways.

1. What is the greatest takeaway
- One thing that really takes the cake is how simple things that can be easily done now, it's actually difficult to do in the past. Let's use "creating newspapers" as an example. It is very tedious and time-consuming to actually create it in the past as they aren't blessed with futuristic technologies to help them. They have to go through a super long and tiring process to ensure that the newspaper is in top-notch condition. What's worse is that they have to work fast and be very patient. Now, newspapers can be done by machines and robots. Just type in the article in the computer and print it in bulks. It's very efficient. Thus, i think this is my greatest takeaway.

2. How design has been revolutionary to you
- Design is always changing as time passes. It is never a static process but more on the dynamic side. We are constantly looking for solutions be it in the past, present or the future. In the past, we didn't have much technologies so with design, it helps us improve the lives of people by constantly creating new solutions. That is how we are blessed with a lot of technologies we have nowadays. Often, we took it for granted.

3. Why is design important to you or the world.
- Design is really important to me because it helps me to keep an open mind. It also helps me to think out of the box effectively. And to the world, without design, we will not be able to have the things we have today.

Also, i realise that in the past it really takes a lot of time to produce a single print out due to the details like font and spacing, however now we can print multiples prints we a click of a button in a fast pace which is more convenient and easy. Additionally, the past there are hardly pictures on newspapers due to time consuming and wasting a lot of manpower so they use different type of fonts to show different feeling and emotions. However now, we can easily print pictures as technology advancement have make it possible, and we should appreciate it.

share with us how design has been revolutionary to you ?

design have allow everyone to show their creativity and emotions and also make us visualise and think better to solve different types of issues and problems.

my greatest takeaway from this movie is the appreciation towards the technology and softwares that we have access to easily now, for us to be able to have the opportunity to pursue design. As compared to the earlier times where not everyone had the platform to do so.

It is revolutionary as we saw how the process of printing, typpgraphy and design has progressed and advanced over time. It was also how design had opened doors for more people back then, when not many women were able to get into the workforce. As a result, it brought together more talent and skills.

To me design is a form of communication between the designer and the rest of the world or amongst people. One example that i noticed was how the people printing the newspaper had despertately tried to ensure that everything could be printed on time, especially when the strike happened, if not people would only receive a black sheet. This tells me how design really impacts our everyday life and the importance of it to us.

Pan Zhen P1824816 DXPD/FT/1A/02 1.Greatest Takeaway : My greatest takeaway regarding the movie is that our science of both printing as well as design have advanced a long way , from the "cavemen-ish" method of actually carving out the pictures as well as the letters that were needed to be pressed onto the paper to be printer , to the modern laser printer where the ink is just being spray onto the paper like a miniature hose in the machine , with 3 colors - Red Blue and Yellow , as well as black. Initially , the first type of printing press , where it is actually a literally press , the letters and pictures were first carved into lead or a metal alloy , which is then loaded onto the press , heated then press down onto the paper , leaving down the lead onto the paper , it is just like the Chinese invention of which individual lettering were carved out using clay or wood, arranged in the order the copier wanted , of which ink were applied to the words and were then pressed into the paper , leaving the marks behind . Honestly , it has been stated in the video that the lead printing press were inspired by. The method of photocopying is also heavily implied in the movie that the meaning of the word is literally based on the word. Photo-copying , which sort of means light copying . Initially , the first few method of photocopying , where a layer of paper , which the light from the scanner would not be able to shine through , which will create sort-of-a-filter to it , either giving the picture a sort of "no-scan" or even add another layer of color as the light might change color after passing through the paper.

2.How design have been revolution to me :I was born in a Chinese-Russo family , in the 90s , which , as many people would have know , it is the poor era for me , as a result, my house does not have all the high-tech equipment most of my classmates have , for examples - for internet , we need to plug in the phone wire and dial , with the weird noise and such , as well as using computers with those floppy square disk as well as OS of window 98 or even those that just had a command prompt only. Nowadays , these relics are almost extinct , and (almost) everyone have wifi , working PC and printer at home....last time I had to take my 2gb thumbdrive , which is considered to be huge sized , to the printing shop to print anything , and price is also not cheap , now everyone can just use their wifi linked printer to print out anything they wanted or needed , as long as there is a stable internet connection and ink. Now everything is small and compact , I mean , last time ,in the 90s , the hard disk space for my pc is only 5 gb , and that is the best at the time ! Now , my small laptop with no cd reader have 1 tb (1024 gb) of storage space , which by itself is already quite amusing.
3.Why is design important to me or the world - As I had stated before , the new designs had made the things around us smaller , for examples , just as I have stated , the hard disks' size might have stayed the same , but the internal size had changed , from the tiny 5gb to the serious huge volume of 1t , it is truly remarkable . Further more , the designers for our phones have also did their best , as the term mobile phone have changed its meaning over time , from a portable brick capable of dialing others , to the first ever ' smart' phone that could send messages and emails , to the first ever real smart phone ,that could install apps , and even have functions such as compass , emails , and even games , that are not as simply coded as the famous snake game. Additionally , the size of things around us have also gotten smaller , not just the phones or hard disk , but also other tools , such as cameras or even knives , to the point that certain type of camera can be inserted in places where no one with the exception of a microscope could find it , easily , while some type of knives ,instead of using the traditional blade , now are just a tiny thread of fiber , sharp enough to cut through flesh. Isn't modern design wonderful ?

1. The greatest takeaway from this movie is that design has come a long way. From carving out the fonts and choosing them one letter at a time (hand print) to just choosing the font on our laptops and typing it out and then printing it with just a click. Design has to keep changing and evolving in order to keep up with the times.

2. After watching this movie, I realised how much design has evolved and changed and even improve over the years. It is truly amazing how fast times change. Now, we have softwares like Adobe to do design as compared to in the past, where the process was long and tedious even. We use to do everything manually in the sense that we have to not only carve out the letters one at a time to print, but also we manually measure the spaces between each letter and even line. Now, we have technology to do almost all the work for us, which cuts down the process, saves us a lot of time and makes everything much more convenient. To me, this is revolutionary.

3. Design is like a platform for people to express themselves and their creativity. It also allows me to see the world in a different point of view. In my opinion, design has made the way we live so much simpler. It helps us solve a lot of our problems in our lives. Without design, we would not have a lot of the items we have today.
