I think that at the Institute we are going to  talk about academics issues all the time: academic literacy, writing, use of English, schedules,  to hand in activities, deadlines, homework, different types of reading, formative evaluation; etc.

In this particular workshop or subject,  I think we´ll deal with genres or texts types: classes, newspaper or magazine´s articles, letters, mails, notes, timetables, speeches, essays, reports, and so on.

So, we have a double challenge here: to learn about aspects, contents and knowledge that have to do with the academic side, but in a foreign language. Amazing!

We will be familiarized with structures, genres, specific and formal vocabulary, and so on. In this first year I believe we will start with paragraphs, novels, articles, reviews, perhaps we learn how to summarize a topic.

It's interesting to see how understanding the way an essay is written, or anylizing different types of narrative genres can help us adapt to different contexts and what students may need later on.
