In this rhetorical situation, we are also dealing with a teenager. Most teenagers are selective eaters and lean more towards bold, sweet and savory flavors. The teen should know that the apple is a tasty alternative to the candy bar that they could get at the gas station. The adjective tasty would be more effective than the adjective "weathered" in this case. Weathered would be a poor choice because of the negative connotation that comes with the word.
