In 1866, Henry Bergh drafted articles of incorporation for the ASPCA. New York then integrated the ASPCA with policing abilities to prosecute. The ASPCA is still active to this day and is probably the most popular organization in America. And by the 1870s, other SPCAs and laws occurred in other states that modeled after Bergh's work.

This book is now considered to be the founding of the philosophy behind the Animal Rights movement. It has settled down the ideology for the movement and future organizations .

Although PETA hasn't been around for long, it already earned a name on the internet for having controversies with their partnerships.

The Nonhuman Rights Project filed petitions in three court trials in New York in 2013. Their petitions were for the recognition of bodily rights for four chimpanzees. All three petitions were denied, so they moved onto a different court. This is fairly recent so it hasn't impacted the movement in any major way, but it shows how the movement has evolved and how far the activists are willing to go for a mere recognition that animals can feel pain.

In 1822, King George IV signed An Act to Prevent the Cruel and Improper Treatment of Cattle. This was an act that Richard Martin proposed, thus the name Martin's Act. This act was the first animal welfare legislation in a modern democracy. It started to spread awareness about the cruelty some animals were going through.

In 1966, the Animal Welfare Act was accepted in the United States. Unfortunately, it didn't recognize the suffering some animals go through, and it excluded some species, but it gave animals some basic protections like in lab experiments. This act was probably the closest at the time to protecting animals, but it might've motivated some activists to push harder to get an even better law in place.

In 1635, An Act against Plowing by the Tayle and pulling the Wooll off living sheep was passed. This was one of the very first animal welfare acts to have been made in law. It didn't start the movement per se, especially because it was so far back. But it's still the very first recorded act that is considered to be part of the Animal Rights Movement.

In 1964, the book "Animal Machines" was published, written by Ruth Harrison. It is said that this book raised both public and government awareness of how animals were treated. The book most likely pushed the Animal Rights Movement further along especially since this was around the time that more ideas about animal rights were developing.

In 1944, six non-dairy vegetarians met up, including Donald Watson and Elsie Shrigley. These six people discussed what to call themselves aside from "non-dairy vegetarians". They decided on vegans, marking the beginning and end of vegetarians. Since they created the word vegan, they gave others a way to describe themselves in a way that is separate from vegetarians. They also gave a way for other members of the Animal Rights Movement to support the movement, in a way, by creating the term vegan and spreading it around, as well as the definition.

Japan's Ban on Meat Consumption

In Japan's early years, it was influenced a lot by Buddhism. An emperor banned meat due to Buddhism in 675, and it wasn't changed until the 16th century when Christians reintroduced the omnivorous. But the ban on meat returned in 1687, which caused the black market to gain more meat from hunting. Although the black market got a rise, some people were fine with the ban and were more upset later when the ban was repealed. This wasn't exactly part of the movement, but it is the early thoughts or beginnings of people's ideas on how to protect animals. In other words, it's part of the beginning of veganism and animal rights/protection.
