In my backstory, I think that Mumpo was actually Mumpo's mother and the emperor of Aramath's child, instead of Maslo Inch's. However, Maslo Inch doesn't know this, and sends all of the best royal doctors to help Mumpo's mother in delivering the child.

The child arrives and Maslo Inch, being the clever person he is, realises that he has been tricked and kills Mumpo's mother (aka his mother - really horrible) and banishes Mumpo into the Grey district, where he is brought up by a random old lady who he tells Mumpo is his 'Granny'.

Later on, he goes to the Emperor of Aramanth, and BANISHES HIM in the tall tower where he "cannot escape" and is fed chocolate buttons. Mumpo continues to live until the events of 'The Wind Singer' happens.

At first, he was a patient at the Lord Funt Hospital. The doctors were trying their best to *Repair* his face but did not succeed, so he got a job as the porter at the hospital pushing people around the wards. he was the one who created the "Midnight Gang".
