I do not currently use, nor have I ever used learning centers, so the overview of what they are and how to use them was great for someone in my position. Teachings in Education (2008) did recommend that the educator use simple, easy to comprehend instructions when planning learning centers, so that students can complete them either on their own, or in small groups, and with teacher observation, not necessarily teacher intervention. McFarland-McDaniels (2019) also provided a good basic overview, in addition to how to tailor them to suit each student’s specific needs, utilizing a differentiated approach in the application of learning centers. McFarland-McDaniels (2019) discussed how learning centers can be used to provide individualized instruction or interventions, and that these do not need to be used by the entire grouping of students in a classroom. These resources helped me to understand what a learning center can be, how to plan them, and how to integrate them into my curriculum.

I am designing my learning center as an extension for students during a lesson on Japanese Art. As an extension, this would work well for GATE students.
