         <description><![CDATA[<div>What comes to mind when I hear the term 'fad diets' is just what it is- it is a fad. I usually think of diets like juice cleanses or liquid only diets that restrict food groups and promise instant results. Even though people may get results from these diets and drop a few pounds, the effects are not long lasting. As the Cleveland Clinic article recommends, the best way to lose weight and keep it that way is to eat well balanced meals and exercise regularly. I think lifestyle changes should be emphasized rather than fad diets.</div>]]></description>

There are many ways to determine if a diet is a fad diet or not, as outlined in the provided article. For example, a diet without sufficient scientific reviews is likely a fad. </div>]]></description>

I usually think of something that is unsustainable that cuts out certain foods/nutrients for no apparent reason and claims to have great health benefits. For example, the "gluten free" diet, gluten is not particularly harmful unless one has a gluten allergy. There is no use in completely avoiding gluten as this does not offer any benefits.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When I hear the phrase "fad diet", I tend to gravitate towards negative thoughts. I associate fad diets as a scam to get "good results in a short period of time". While it may change a person's physique, it's typically temporary. They make blatant claims as to how "innovative and instant" the process is. Getting into a fad diet can oftentimes do more harm than good. They cause people to eliminate their typical diet, which is healthier than fad diets. Cutting back on real nutrition damages a person health. There are healthier alternatives to losing weight. Even if they are meant to be a long process, it would feel better to know that you achieved your goal through hard work.</div>]]></description>

Someone starts the rumor that THIS particular vitamin, food group, mineral, is really good for you. Or in reverse, a particular nutrient is very bad for you. The result is a year or two of people living by the fad diet and being very passionate about it until something new comes along.</div>]]></description>

I'm sure some diets like keto or low fat have their place but it's important to take into account that there really is no easy way to lose a lot of weight, reverse aging, or anything else promised by weight loss gurus and celebrities. We need to stop thinking of diet like it's quickly cleaning up the house before we have company over as with losing weight quick to get that summer beach body but instead more like maintaining a "clean home" to live in.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

I learned that it is very easy to gain all the weight that was lost during the diet which sounds useless and unhealthy. Very common fad diets that are listed as unhealthy on https://www.everydayhealth.com/diet-nutrition/diet/best-worst-fad-diets/ are the Keto and Whole 30 diets. These diets might be effective in the time being but they can be too restricting and unhealthy in the long run.</div>]]></description>

I think that people look at a diet and think about making a change (which is good) but fail to realize that they can still eat normally. All they need to do is change their habits. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with a fad diet as long as it's somewhat healthy and teaches the individual how to control their intake and start exercising. </div>]]></description>

However, now I know more about healthy eating and body positivity and I realize that a lot of fad diets are very harmful.          <description><![CDATA[<div>When I hear the phrase Fad Diets, I think of the keto diet and other diets that are popular but not sustaining. They are diets that have helped people lose several pounds quickly, but then cause a significant rebound because it is hard to continue following the restrictive rules of the diet.&nbsp; I think Fad diets are unhealthy for the rebounding effect and I think it does not allow someone to enjoy different foods because of the restrictions the fad diets have and the lack of vitamins and minerals that can be consumed with eating fruits and vegetables that contain sugars and carbohydrates. I am against following fad diets personally, because I think it is more sustainable and healthy to live a healthy lifestyle by eating well balanced portioned meals and feeling energized.</div>]]></description>

The concept of "health" cannot be summed up solely into a diet; activity, diet, stress, and lifestyle are just a few of the components that lead to a healthy body and mind. Diets can be good for certain people under certain circumstances, but they are not a one size fits all and they must certainly be heavily researched before you should even consider doing them.</div>]]></description>

Some of my family have tried cutting calories or cutting out sugar intake, but none have really participated in a particular fad diet. I think the best way to diet is to alter your daily food eating habits based around your ideal nutrient consumption and how you would want to eat for long term and to let your weight adjust naturally. In class, we read about the reviews of fad diets from 2017, and learning about the diet extensively proves to be more ridiculous than I originally thought. When the fasting days only include 500-600 Calories per day, this would in turn make the person sluggish, tired, not able to their work, and only doing this so their body can take their any desires for the five non fasting days.          <description><![CDATA[<div>When I hear fad diets I think of quick easy diets that people do to lose weight quickly. I think of social media and diet culture that promote diet pills or juice cleansing. I dont think these fad diets are healthy at all. They are so hard on the body and sometimes deprivies the body of the nutrients it need. These diets are not for long term use either. It is very common for someone to go on a fad diet for a week or two and then go back to their normal eating habits. Truthfully, I dont see the point of fad diets since it is only for short term and not a lifestyle change<br><br></div>]]></description>

I think this is because its common for people on social media to promote a quick weight loss alternative and before you know it everyone is participating in this. After reading the article on fad diets I learned that its possible for these diets to do more harm than good. It is important to make sure you are eating the five main food groups and getting regular exercise in order to be healthy, not restricting or harming yourself in order to lose weight. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first thing that comes to mind when I think of fad diets are the fake photo transformations and simplistic explanations of diets that are advertised on Instagram. Often times people are physically fit in their before photo but make themselves look bad by pushing out their stomachs and taking the photo in bad lighting. The biggest example of a fad diet I can think of is the carnivore diet. This is a diet that recommends you only consume meat, fish, poultry, dairy and no vegetables or fruit. This is extremely unhealthy yet it is marketed as a miracle diet. </div>]]></description>

I am currently doing keto to lose weight for an upcoming event I have. Although I know these diets can be bad for you, I try to balance my veggies and protein with each meal. Sometimes some of the things the Kardashians or some other crazy famous person posts seem intriguing until you really think about it and realize there's no way it would realistically work. Seeing models and celebrities having your goal body and "claiming" they use that product to look that way when it's almost always plastic surgery is appealing and increases popularity/creation of fad diets. </div>]]></description>

To paint carbs, sugar, or GMOs as "the bad guys" is an easy oversimplification and a great marketing strategy, but it does nothing to help people follow the scientifically recommended path. I think that a lot of people fall for them because it's a "quick fix" that doesn't involve a lot of work put into it. Those quick fixes could lead to a more negative impact to our health in the long run. In order to lose weight is to do it gradually overtime. Regardless of what a person's body looks like, it is important to nourish it to the best of our abilities. Eating more greens, limiting processed food, and living in moderation. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When I hear "fad diets", I think of all the one's that are in fashion today and recall those that came before. I know some diets that are in favor/fashion now claim to have "proven" results, but then you go on to hear all the horror stories from many who jump on them and don't get the "guaranteed amazing results" they were sold on. I think one of the largest issues with fad diets is the lack of disclaimers that accompany all the possible results, as well as not stressing that even the slightest deviation from diet can significantly impact results. All in all, in my opinion, one needs to know their self and their own nutritional needs before blindly jumping on any diet. What may be the perfect diet for "john doe" may be absolutely a waste of time for me. </div>]]></description>
