Ti Punch means "small punch," it is a rum drink that is especially popular in Guadeloupe and other French-speaking Caribbean islands.

The drink is traditionally made with white rhum agricole, lime, and cane sugar.

It is served as an apéritif before starting a meal, both as a matter of tradition and because the drink itself is strongly alcoholic.
A popular tradition is that of “chacun prépare sa propre mort” - each prepares his own death. Instead of serving the mixed drink, the host will simply put out the ingredients, and everyone will prepare the drink according to his or her own taste. Another explanation – if you pour a drink for your guest, how do you know his perfect portion? If you pour too little or too much you will not please your guest.

Pea soup with pancakes and punch is a dish that has a long tradition in Sweden. The fact that the dish is primarily served on Thursdays is believed to have its origins in a Catholic tradition of not eating meat on Fridays, which meant that during Thursdays one had the opportunity to eat a larger amount as compensation for Friday's abstinence. Pea soup used to be prepared from different kinds of peas with a common denominator that they should be soaked before cooking. The peas could also be stewed and then served with meat or salted herring as a side dish.

Since it is the time of the year when this dish is mostly eaten at ( but not only at Christmans, of course), I am posting my choice. Very traditional and pretty heavy meal, usually served with cold drink- milk or something that we call "kefīrs" ( no idea for English equivalent word). We boil grey peas and serve them with fried onions in bacon fat- and yes, we are not afraid of extra fat and some bad that it may do- it may get cold here in December and we like to eat! :)

This cold starter or snack is particularly popular all over the year in Latvia.
It perfectly matches some cold beer in summer, as well as a tasty bite during a cold winter movie night! :)
We use our traditional black bread, fry its slices in good olive oil or bacon fat for a minute to get some crunchy pieces, then rub in some grated garlic! Tastes wonderfully, but, of course, according to one's individual preferences...:)

It is delicious soup to get you cold on a hot summer day- this is definitely one of my favourite dishes in summer season!
Very specific, but I must admit very heathy, low in calories and perfectly refreshing IF you know how to make it well! :)

I'm very fond of cooking and dream about one day open a classic bed and breakfast (with high class dinner) on the island of Öland in Sweden. Therefore it's hard to pick a dish which can be brought and served in Guadeloupe.

But herring is herring so I had to pick it. People from the northern part of Europe are very familiar with this. We serve pickled herring when we celebrate christmas, easter, midsummer and on other occasions. The 'juice' is made of vinegar, water and sugar. My favourite is onion herring where you simply add onion, salt and other spices to the pickling juice.

You can serve it with potatoes and sour cream or on a hard bread with caviar.
