I'm sure there are days when it made him sad. That stuff gets to you after a while. It really does. It really gets to you that people will judge you by what they see on the outside and not the inside. Now, you have to do whatever you can to show them, 'Hey, man, I'm just human like you." He just happened to be a kid who defied categorization, who relished being an individual, who was content to connect with anyone through whatever interest or trait they might have in common, as long as he could funnel it back to his compulsion, to the thing he loved most.

"For eighteen years I never thought of that day, not in any probing way. The few times my reminiscing carried me back to that torrid afternoon, what I remembered first was the belt. Luke, I would think. You wild dog. I wonder, do you still wear twine?

Now at age twenty-nine, I sit down to write, to reconstruct the incident from the echoes and shouts of a tired memory. I scratch it out. When I get to the end, I pause. There's an inconsistency, a ghost in this story.

I read it. I read it again. And there it is.
Who put out the fire?
A long-dormant voice says, Dad did.
[...]
I imagine Dad praying aloud, his eyes drawn heavenward, as he carries his son to the truck and sets him in the driver's seat. Dad shifts the engine into first, the truck starts to roll. It's going at a good speed now, Luke's gripping the wheel. Dad jumps from the moving truck, hits the ground and rolls, then runs back toward the brushfire, which has spread wider and grown taller. The Lord will provide, he chants, then he takes off his shirt and begins to beat back the flames."

This passage highlights that the novel, a memoir, is written completely from Tara Westover's memory and therefore it is her world view, her narration of the events that happened in her life. This matters to the overall story because the reader needs to trust her as the narrator to tell her story, but she admits here that there are missing memories and/or discrepancies in her story. The fact that she added a footnote at the end of this chapter outlining how her two brothers, Richard and Luke, disagree about how Luke got home that day, but all agree that he somehow ended up in the middle of the yard with his leg in a trashcan and a sombrero on his head shows that we should trust her because she has done her due diligence to tell the story.

The book that I chose uses shifting narration and has no sets characters or character development. I like the way this book is set up because i don't have to worry about the characters, it's just mini stories from a professional baseball player's career. One of the stories that stood out to me was Rollie Fingers story, he said "Even though I was not getting results, I wanted it so bad and refused to quit." I can definetly relate to this quote because developing is a long process and it is very hard to see day by day, but after a long time the positive changes become more visible.

The explosion. Rosetta Stone in a Billion pieces. Fiery evil bloke. Dad boxed in a coffin. Creepy Frenchman and Arab girl with the knife. Us passing out. Right."(29)

The perspective in my book matters because we get 2. They are both telling the same story but they tell it in different ways. They are brother and sister but the language they use are very different. This helps build their characters. They were both born in America but Sadie grew up with here grandparents in England so her language is very different from Carters. Sadie will not hold back when telling the story which lets us know she is aggressive. Carter tells it in a more descriptive way which lets us know he pays attention to details. Also sense they are telling the story together and are talking to each other while telling the story you can see when they are having disagreements about a part.

"'Does this have something to do with the police shooting that drug dealer in your neighborhood?'
'Wh-what?'
'I heard about it on the news,' she says. 'And I know you're into that sort of thing now-'
That sort of thing? What the fuck is 'that sort of thing'?
'And then they said the drug dealer's name was Khalil,' she says, and exchanges a look with Maya.
'We've wanted to ask if it was the Khalil who used to come to your birthday parties,' Maya adds. 'We didn't know how, though.'
The drug dealer. That's how they see him. It doesn't matter that he's suspected of doing it. 'Drug dealer' is louder than 'suspected' ever will be.

The book is in 1st person point of view of the character Starr. She is a young black girl who lives in a bad area, but goes to a prestigious private school an hour away. In the passage, her white friends ask her about a "drug dealer" shooting that happened in her neighborhood. Starr's perspective is so different because she knew Khalil since she was very young and saw him as so much more than a drug dealer. She also knows that it wasn't his fault that he got shot, so her friends just referring to him as a drug dealer is very racist. Starr knows that the police are trying to make Khalil the bad guy in the situation, and it's sad that saying he was a "suspected drug dealer" covers the truth in areas like her school. They also say that they know she's "into that sort of thing" now. Starr finds this comment very offensive because the only reason they make comments like that is because of the color of her skin. She isn't allowed to get mad or yell because people will assume she is "a hood girl", which is why she changes her personality while at school.

I feel that his perspective is important to the story because he is the one facing the addiction to Heroine which is very serious and it makes sense that he is the one talking about it. in this passage, Mickey Catalan compares himself to his friend Josie, explaining that she is much better than him at life in general. this method of coping could be why he struggles with his addiction.

She's imagining what it would be like to have an army of people named after her who would follow her every command. This represents Katniss's ambition and the power she holds as the Mockingjay, a symbol of rebellion and hope for the oppressed districts of Panem.

" At the Olympics, the smile returned for Federer as he won four straight matches in straight sets to reach the semifinals, beating David Prinosil, Karol Kucera, Mikael Tillstrom, and Karim Alami.

There were no true tennis greats on that list, although Kucera, a smooth-moving Slovakian, had once been on top 10. But it was still a reaffirming run, and Federer entered the medal round with renewed confidence to face Tommy Haas, a German with one-handed backhand and flowing all-court of his own. Haas, unlike Federer, has left Europe as a youngster to train in the United States at the Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Florida, growing particularly close with the academy's founder, Nick Bollettieri, a gregarious, perma-tanned force of nature who married eight times but was above all married to his work. Bollettieri had a bottomless need for self-promotion but also a genuine love of the game that he coached much better than he ever played." (page 106)

The perspective of this book is first-person limited since the author knows limited information about Roger Federer and his life. This passage is talking about how Roger was different from other players. The author explains how Federer didn't leave Europe to come to the USA to train with Nick Bollettieri, unlike Haas. Federer was able to beat everyone even though he stayed in Europe. The first-person limited perspective makes this story better since the narrator doesn't know everything about Roger. He knows the things that happened in tournaments and practices but he doesn't know the things that happened at home. The author can only see limited things, he can't see everything.

Sometimes I look at him, standing around being tall without even trying, and I want to kill him, except he could definitely beat me up."

Wyatt, the main character and also a middle school guy in Miami. His school is going to a trip and they are on the way. He says the thing he wanted to do more than anything else in the world was dating Suzana. But she has a boyfriend and Wyatt wants them to be broke up. This matters to the story of the book, because he said he wants to date her, means he is going to do something later in the story to reach that goal. The author makes the story more interesting and unpredictable by showing Wyatt's feeling for Suzana right before the trip and grab readers' attention for the relationships between the 3 people as the story continues.

The book is narrated from the perspective of multiple characters who are present over a single day, both in the first and third-person point of view. The first-person points of view, told from the perspectives of its two main protagonists, Daniel and Natasha, are related in the present tense as the plot unfolds. The third-person narrator narrates both in the present, future, and past in a limited third-person voice about the perspective of other characters throughout the story. Each of these perspectives provides essential contextual information about events, objects, ideas, and people in relation to the same story, so the reader learns a little more about Natasha and Daniel's backgrounds. Also, this gives the reader a personal view of the events through the eyes of Daniel and Natasha and the broad and general perspective in those chapters that helps the reader construct the story completely and reliably.

The two main characters have opposite personalities. Even though they are both immigrants living in New York, Natasha is a Jamaican who entered the country illegally and will be deported in 1 day. During the story, she is afraid to leave, so she desperately seeks a solution. She narrates how she sees his last day living in the United States. On the other hand, Daniel is a first-generation American, the son of stringent Korean parents, demanding and with high expectations for him. Daniel likes poetry, so his way of narrating is romantic and poetic, using literary devices and figurative language.

"'I had a nice time. Everything is irie there, man. You'll be all right.'

[…]

And now a man who has probably spent no more than a week in Jamaica is telling me that everything will be irie. "Where did you go?" I ask. "Negril, very nice place." he says. "Did you leave the hotel grounds?" "I wanted to, but…." I interrupted him before he finished, "You listened to Bob Marley, and a bartender got you some pot, and someone told you what irie means, and you think you know something. You saw a tiki bar and a beach and your hotel room. That is not a country. That is a resort."

[…]

Don't tell me I'll be alright. I don't know that place. I've been here since I was eight years old. I don't know anyone in Jamaica. I don't have an accent. I don't know my family there, not the way you're supposed to know family. It's my senior year. What about prom and graduation and my friends?" (Yoon, 20-22)

It's relevant since Natasha is struggling with the impending loss of her identity, so she's not in the mood for that Lester Barnes comment. And at the same time, it shows that Lester Barnes, not knowing what Natasha is going through, sees the situation from another perspective and takes it humorously. It also demonstrates their different perspectives with respect to a country and about the situation that is happening at that moment.

James Dashner created this feeling by using extremely descriptive language in order to create an environment that allows you to feel immersed in the book. An example of his use of descriptive language is when he described a zombie, he went in to detail on the cuts and gashes on his skin. I think that James Dashner's purpose for the whole book is to provide an action packed story in order to make the reader feel as if they are in an action movie with the characters.

The passage i read from my book was written by Bob Howsam, a MLB manager. He talks about about he made the decision to purchase his single A team in his town (Denver Bears). He turned this team into a successful franchise and set minor league attendance records. Howsam also started a football team as a charter franchise, this team was the Denver Broncos. He eventually had to sell these teams due to financial reasons and it was really tough for Howsam because he felt like he lost a part of him. "This realization was one of the true low points of my life, as I was faced with the reality of my financial limitations and lost the two teams that had become such a part of me. Howsam went on to get an opportunity to coach for the Cincinnati Reds and went on the win back to back world championships, he talked about how his previous failure made his success that much more enjoyable. "I am thankful for the life lessons in Denver, as I was able to not only enjoy the success we experienced in Cincinnati but to truly appreciate it."

The purpose of this section was to move the plot. This was related to the plot because the character's goal is to defeat the main conflict, Set. Currently they are on a side quest so they can defeat Set. They have to get a feather from the hall of judgement that weighs whether you are a good person or not. They meet Anubis and ask for his help, "Anubis tilted his head. 'and the two of you intend to challenge Set?' 'that's the general idea,' Carter agreed. 'will you help?' Anubis glowered. I remembered Thoth saying Anubis was only in a good mood once an eon or so. I had a feeling this was not one to those days. 'No,' he said flatly. ' I'll show you why.'" (353,354). This is helping to move the plot because now they will figure out what the need to do to defeat Set. The author helps use imagery and character development to help move the plot. When Anubis first pop out of a bush to see them the used imagery to describe what he looked like. It helped understand what he was going to be like. They also develop Sadie's character by showing that she has a soft side and that might later on show if she has to help her brother, Carter.

The purpose of this section was to build Kobe's background more leading up to the NBA draft. In the story, we are in his senior year of high school and his team is playing in a big tournament. He fouled out in a big game and his team ended up losing once he left the game. The purpose of this section of the book was Kobe trying to get his team to be more focused and not have to rely on him being on the court to win. This relates to the overall purpose of the novel because it helps build Kobe's competitiveness leading into the NBA. I think the purpose of this part of the book is to introduce how Kobe can play the way he does and still have a whole team that can do their job without having to rely on Kobe. "You're Kobe Bryant. You're the best player in the country. But you've got to respect your teammates here. you can't be so aggressive. You can't take on every team by yourself. These guys are trying their best to play their roles on this team. You've got to make them feel comfortable. Everybody has to play their roles for this to work out." (Coach Downer on pg.236) Kobe gets his first taste of how he can play the way he does and still let his teammates play their roles. The author, Mike Sielski, is building the purpose of Kobe's background for the future before he gets drafted into the NBA.

"She's more pure and innocent than any of those girls you'd have me go to the dance with. Oh man, some of the girls in this town, well, let's just say they hunt in packs, take no prisoners. And yes, I've been going out to see Kya some. You know why? I know this because the author includes a series of episodes that shows what the main character is thinking/feeling. "I want to ask when it will be normal again, when I'll be able to walk, how Carolina is doing" (McGinnis, 25). This is an example of a thought that the main character was thinking while both her and her friend, Carolina were injured in the hospital. I believe that the main purpose of my book is to entertain and inspire because it is about these two softball players who had severe injuries which would interfere with their season, but they still recovered and were able to thrive during their season. this relates the the purpose of the passage i just read because the thoughts shown of the main character relates to the main purpose of the story.

the authors purpose in this part of the book was the build up of a new character in this book. The build was about a new team the Edmonton oilers. They where i new team in the NHL and they had a expansion draft so there for the already had guys that had been playing in the league. The team had been in the league for about 5 years they had already had a captain of the team for the past 4 yers the team was apart of the NHL. There was one summer where they where heading in to the end of the off season getting ready for the season and he sat the team down and said "when the media left the locker room on that October morning in 1983, Lee announced that he was giving up his captaincy up, and granting it to Wayne Gretzky." Lee gave up his captaincy with selflessness and grace.
no one really new that Lee was going to give it up but it was already Wayne team he was the leagues 4 years in a row mvp even though he was only 22.
lee came out and tole the media
"maybe a change like this will help us win the next Stanley cup."
in a way his was looking out for his team and bettering his team opportunity to win the cup and it was a big change but a lot of the older and younger guys had already looked up to Wayne.
Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky where old friends who played and the same junior team but Mark was 2 years older then Wayne, so Mark had already new the talent of his new teammates and new captains abilities. Mark was very excited for the change and thought that it would be something that would bring them closer to winning the cup.

The purpose of the passage i just read was to continue the plot and create a conflict within my novel. My passage starts with Luisa, the main character, talking about how her boyfriend doesnt care about how she looks/appears anymore. Luisas boyfreind is obsessed with working out and his appearence so the fact that he doesnt care about how she looks worries her. "I dont want you to lose weight. The girls at the club- you couldnt make one decent boob out of all of theirs put togeather." Luisas boyfreind says this to her and it comes off as back handed, she doesnt know if he intended it that way but thats how she took it. Luisa is starting to realize she doesnt like the way she feels with her boyfreind and is more comfortable with herself when she is with Will. With will she doenst feel the need to be someone else and she feels comfortable in her own body and personality, this is shown in the novel by imigary. When Luisa is with Will she it is always bright and colorful but when she is with her boyfreind it is gloomy and rainy. "Spring arrived overnight, as if winter, like some unwanted guest had abruply shrugged its way into a coat and vanished... i had stayed at patricks house the evening before." This moves the plot forward by letting the reader know how Luisa feels about patrick and maybe she wont continue her realtionship with him for much longer. Possibly ending her relationship with her boyfreind could lead to conflict, Luisa would be ending her current relationship for another. Diction also plays a part with showing how Patrick makes Luisa feel, Luisa is always vocal with Will and very quiet with Patrick. Shes more energetic with Will and she seems like herself. Patrick is not the best for her and it is becoming apparent.

In this chapter, the author's purpose was to expand the reader's view point on Starr's bestfriend. She realizes that Hailey has been racist throughout their whole friendship, but she never commented on it because it became the "normal for [her]" (Thomas 252). She shows this by focusing on the main character's POV, which makes the reader understand what Starr is going through and why it effects her so much. The author also uses diction to convey the purpose by describing Starr's reaction to the police, Hailey, and Khalil's death. This relates to the main idea that racism is sometimes hidden and sometimes it's clear, but it is always there. Thomas builds this purpose by showing characters who all are going through similar but very different race related conflicts.

The author's purpose right now is to show how the main character's life is about to change. The author wants to show how Elise (the main character) is going to be social and how she is going to enjoy her life. Elise recently found out that she likes DJing. Her friend asked her if she wants to be a DJ for half an hour every Thursday at a club he is a DJ at. This relates to the overall purpose of the novel because, in the previous chapters Elise was a lonely person, she didn't have any friends. She wanted to kill herself because she wasn't cool enough for the world. And now her life is going to change after she started going to a club and after she met Char the DJ. She is going to make many more friends and she will become cool as she is going to be a DJ. She finally found what she likes. The author uses imagery to show the time Elise was at Chars' house to learn about how to be a DJ and what are the two main things to being a DJ: "There are two things that make someone a great DJ ... one of the most important things to master is beat matching"(92-93).

The end of "Book 1" - in this section, Tara Westover gives a very detailed account of her brother, Shawn's, motorcycle accident and how she chose to take him to the hospital, directly disobeying her father's orders to bring him home. This is a pivotal moment in the novel because it is really the first time that she outwardly disobeyed her father's authority and thus separated herself from "them" (her family), and it comes after she has (1) taken the ACT and decided she wants to go to school, and (2) gotten a new job in town instead of working for her dad in the scrap yard. Throughout "Book 1", Westover has given the background of her family - extremist Mormon, survivalists - and the *abusive* authority of her father and brother Shawn. This culminating act of taking her brother to the hospital (the government) instead of home is the beginning of her new start which will be discussed in "Book 2".

In the current part of my story, The New Jim Crow, the author is presenting us with a description of a post-civil war & post-slavery South, with the purpose of showing weaknesses in the new South. One way the author does this is by appealing to the reader's logic. Specifically, the author describes the collapse of the Southern economy due to the emancipation of slaves in order to show weakness and vulnerability in Southern society. The author also uses juxtaposing ideas, typically making points showing the before and after of slavery, to show the turmoil in the South resulting from its new status quo. For example, the author discusses previous forms of subjugation under slavery and then quickly juxtaposes this idea by describing the absence of such a system immediately following the Civil War. Ultimately, this section helps build the overall purpose of the book by showing how racial caste, or "the new Jim Crow", had the opportunity to grow in America.

The author's purpose in this section is that the reader feels how each of the characters feels after the book's central conflict. At the book's beginning, we know each character's background and the story of how they met. However, in the last chapters, there was a change in history, a conflict, which caused a shift in the development of history. Nicola Yoon wants readers to feel what each character is going through so readers are hooked into the book. This contributes to the overall purpose of the book, which is more than just telling a fictional story to entertain; the overall purpose is for readers to feel real struggles faced by immigrant youth in America, from developing love, dealing with parental relationships and expectations, considering the meaning of life, and finally, dealing with the pressures of racism, immigration, future, and identity. Nicola Yoon, being herself a Jamaican immigrant who spent her adolescence in New York, creates this story to reflect how complex that stage of her life was.

Yoon builds the purpose of this section by expressing many feelings so the reader feels what the characters are going through. Because the vast majority of readers are not immigrants and do not know how it feels to be one, the author uses many similes to describe feelings as more common situations and more common things that all readers can understand, "Rejection was like sandpaper." (Yoon, 207), refers to how Samuel feels after he was rejected from an audition, for being immigrant and having an accent different from the American, and assimilating it to something that everyone knows. In addition, he uses hyperbole to exaggerate feelings: "What is falling in love? A series of small coincidences that we say means everything because we want to believe that our tiny lives matter on a galactic scale. But falling in love doesn't even begin to compare to the formation of the universe." (Yoon, 203) Yoon is using both comparison and hyperbole, comparing love to the universe. It also demonstrates the negativity and how Natasha's perspective on love changed after the conflict, reflecting her heartbroken feelings.

The main purpose of the book is to inform and tell a Story. On this part of the story John Florio's main purpose is to build a characters background. This is important to the story as it will help the reader have a better understanding of each character therefore having a deeper understanding and forming a connection with each character. The author dos this by telling the readers the background story of both the fighters and everything they had to do and sacrifice to be the great fighters that they are, Joe coming from a very struggling family during the great depression and Max having to live in Germany during the time of Adolf Hitler. With this purpose John Florio helps readers understand how big this fight truly was and how the media turned the fight into something much bigger than a fight inside the ring and as war inside of a ring with both fighters representing countries at war. John Florio uses exaggeration to build this purpose and emphasis how big this fighters were: "In seven Months, Joe had skyrocketed from a Hopeful amateur to a legitimate contender. He'd also gone from having empty pockets to a well padded wallet". This helps the readers acknowledge the growth that John had and how fame and set him up to how this rapid success was affecting him.

In this part of my book Gaiman uses suspenseful moments too build a relationship between the two main characters. The author uses lots of imagery and dialogue to let us see and feel how the relationship is getting stronger. In the story the two main characters are exploring in the woods behind there farm house. Lettie, the eleven year old girl, gives comfort to the 7 year old boy who is a little scared to go into the woods, "I will always protect you, I promise" (Gaiman 47) As they venture farther into the woods they come across a manta wolf, the 7 year old boy was very scared but Lettie took control and made sure they were not seen. When they first saw the wolf the boy was almost in shock not knowing what to do, luckily, Lettie knew all you had to do was not let it see you and stay quiet, she said to the boy, "Get down!" (Gaiman 51) In fear they both held hands waiting for the wolf to go away, when it left Lettie said, "I promised I wouldn't let anything hurt you" (Gaiman 53) It can be inferred that these two characters relationships were made stronger by shared trauma and trust in one another.

He builds this up by using lots of imagery and really making it feel as if his dad has the gun pointed at the reader. The reader feels every belt whip and feels the tears drop down his face. He uses extreme detail and gives the audience a good idea of the setting and how it develops over time. One part of the story that really immersed me into the story was "She knew I wanted to be a scout so she signed me up for the local troop. I still remember putting on the navy blue cub scout button-down one Saturday. I felt proud wearing a uniform and knowing at least for a few hours I could pretend that I was a normal kid"--"My pride, her smile, wasn’t just because of the cub scouts they rose from a deeper place"-- "It was proof that we mattered"--"Thats when my father came home, Where are you two going? He glared at me. I stared at the floor, My mother cleared her throat, Im taking David to his first Cub Scout meeting"--"No no cub scout meeting today"--"I looked up he laughed as my eyes welled up with tears"

This is a direct example of how he used extreme details to really give the reader the best picture of what is going on

Andre Agassi informs his story to how his life was before reaching his goal to being number one in the world. Agassi explains the unique ways his father used to treat him. He believes that his father was what made him hate tennis. He had a flashback when he lost a national tournament in Texas at ten years old. Instead of receiving the first place trophy he receives third place. Agassi's dad is really upset and "Rips the trophy from my hands. Lifts it up and throws it on the cement. The trophy shatters." Agassi appeals to the readers emotion. He portrays this by giving vivid details and word choice. After Agassi loses another tournament he sits quietly in the car. " The tension in the car is so thick that I curl up on the backseat and close my eyes. I think about jumping out, running away, or finding Rudy and asking him to coach me. Or adopt me." This just shows again how his Dad was super tough on Agassi and how it shaped him into being very tough on and off the court.

In chapter 13 the author's purpose was to build tension and progress the story into a mystery novel. This relates to the overall purpose which is to keep readers engaged and to entertain. Feinstein introduces vital pieces of the book's story line without revealing all the details to the reader. He has side characters reveal small pieces of information working towards one big mystery but often leaves the audience wanting more. He cuts off characters and does not let them reveal everything: "I have already said too much," (147). Feinstein also builds tension by emotionally appealing to the audience. He brings out empathy in the reader by having characters go through common struggles that many people can relate to. He has the main character injure his arm while watching a football game from the sideline. "'OH MY GOD!' Stevie screamed in pain," (145). By having his characters go through trials in their storylines he connects the audience to the novel and makes the story more realistic, in turn having them feel the tension in the novel on a deeper level.

The purpose of this section is main character's development. The author shows more character's leadership with her classmates. "Everyone just calm down. Back at the airport, there was no right decision to make, but we couldn't afford to not make any decision at all. Staying put and just waiting to run out of food wasn't a good option. We knew this trip was risky, but we agree it was worth it, and nothing's changed except our attitude. We need to keep going." (57) This is an example of the main character use her leadership, and bringing her classmates together. That is the main purpose of my book to entertain because it is about full class in danger, and the main character developed her leadership for her classmates to be safe. Also, He used imagery to magnify the problem as well. "It's like my town's dead." This is an example of showing reader how danger in there.

The purpose of the section that I just read is to show the perspective of the main character Wyatt, who is in 8th grade. His class is going to a class trip to the D.C from Miami and they are on the plane. He sat next to his best friend Matt and they found two weird guys who are keep holding their bag which is supposed to be in the cabinet over their head or under the front seat and keep looking the photos and a map of the White House. Wyatt and Matt found them very weird and started thinking there is a bomb in the bag: "You think it's a bomb? (17)". So they the flight attendant that the two weird guys have a bomb in their bag, and the flight attendant checked their bag and there was a dragon's head which one of the weird guys made it. Actually he is an artist and also a tourist so that was why he was looking at the aerial photos of the White House, "They are looking t aerial photographs (22)." Their class friends laughed at them as they got out of the plane include Suzana, the girl who Wyatt likes. The author shows the perspective of an 8th grader because those are the thoughts that an 8th grader could think. The author also building minor conflicts. Wyatt got in trouble at the beginning of the trip and looked dumb in front of Suzana, which notifies more conflicts in the future.

Andre Agassi's perspective towards the world is different to how most people see it. Which is why it is important and has a deep significance because it is his story to tell. "Last things: I lace up my shoes. I tape my wrist. I always tape my own wrist, ever since my injury in 1993. I tie my shoes. Please let this be over. I'm not ready for it to be over. Mr. Agassi, it's time. I'm ready." This quote shows the inner thoughts and emotions of Agassi and how he process them. This is why I believe it is important to understand that no one could know this. Although since it is Agassi's story to tell the readers can understand the text much better because of how we can see what goes on behind the scenes.

In the book currently, the author's purpose was to talk about how wolves and vampires are very different and can't get along. The author also talks about how wolves can't kill vampires because their past victims will also rise: "And when you kill a vampire all its victims rise from the grave. destroying one could mean that fifty others rise in its place. That's how a vampire is born." From death. The author also talks about family. about how as a family we should stick together no matter what happens between them. The purpose of this passage relates to the purpose of the entire book and the author talks about the life of a person who is a wolf and a human.

The purpose of the section that I read is to persuade the reader that Federer is the best tennis player in the 21st century. Federer is a tennis player who has won lots of matches and lots of important tournaments in his career. The author Christopher Clarey is giving examples and explains stories about Federer to persuade the reader. Clarey says "Federer wins the boy's singles title at Wimbledon in 1998 at the age of sixteen."(Clarey, 153) . This is an achievement that not everybody can achieve, but he was already different from the other players. Even when he was a teenager he was a great player with great success. After he was done with his teenage years, most of the tennis players knew that he was going to be a great player and they were a little bit scared about what was going to happen. While the author was explaining some of his wins and some of his losses, he uses lots of other tennis players nice words about Federer. Every one of them says really good things about him. He was known for his personality on and off the court which is why he is really good and why every tennis player takes him as a role model. This relates to the overall purpose of the author of this book which is to persuade the reader that he is the best tennis player in the 21st century.
