At dawn on November 11, 1918, in a railway car in the forest of Compiègne, the representatives of the allied powers signed the armistice with Germany. The fact put an end to the First World War, since the German Empire was the last of the Central Powers to surrender (previously had done Bulgaria, the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian).
