Rosemary
I know we could have the music from anywhere, but what if we could support a local band from somewhere like the Victorian College of the Arts or Melbourne Conservatorium to help them prepare for their performance assessment?

Natalia: its an interesting idea! maybe we could combine two performances between a local group and an international one?

Nadia: I like this idea Rosemary and Natalia! It's a good opportunity for not only us to connect with artists other cultural contexts but for local artists to also do so :) an interesting curatorial element could be selecting the international and local artists based on how they each interpret a broad theme we decide on. Could be a good focus for the interactive segment too.

Qazim: The combination of performances sounds great. It would be a great dialogue between the two groups - or a "duet" of some form? Even better if it's a group of students / young artists AND a senior group of performers (Inter-generational engagement in its finest).
In terms of logistical requirements for this to happen, would we need two screens though?

Iulian (Stoneclap): Please take into account that only one artist and one audience can connect over Stoneclap at a time. We can have several artists one after another, but they won't be able to see/talk with each other. That is by design, so that the artist can focus and personalize the performance to on that one audience and it doesn't feel like a broadcast to the entire Internet.

From Heyuan Xing: Actually, I am really interested in this activity and I have some good performance selection including some music companies, music radio stations and performers in China which I can contact. But I think we should set the theme of the whole performance and some topics for different parts in advance. For example, if the theme of performance is JAZZ NIGHT, we can think who we can invite and what kind of songs ,dancing, or instrument playing can be involved. If there are more some specific requirements on this activity, such as styles, genres, topics, etc., I guess more people can give their ideas.

From Natalia: Heyuan, this is a really great point!!! I think we need to make a call for curators who will be responsible for offering ideas and collecting info from the class community! Would you be willing to be on the curator team? Your connections make you a great fit!

Reply Natalia: Definitely, I'd like to join in. But I am new here, actually i arrived Melbourne one week ago. I am not really familiar with the university and city. If it doesn't mention to much, it's my pleasure to be on the curator team. Probably, we can ask if there anybody else wanting to join in ?

I personally very interested in films and the of course the theme songs. What about we invite a group of bands musicians and reproduce the classical films’ theme songs? Like Titanic, Harry Porter, and La La Land perhaps? These are the movies and songs we are more likely to be familiar with, thus it might be more engaging and attractive?
Natalia: sounds like a great idea!

Anna: Cool idea, just remember we would need to check about copyright restrictions/APRA licences etc. Typically a university has a general licence to use materials for educational purposes, but in my experience permission still needs to be sought for the use of songs (including interpretation by new artists).

And it will be normal that there are conflicts and problems. Dividing into groups is a good idea. How about dividing different people into different groups which are responsible for different tasks according to each person's interests and abilities? I know some of my classmates in this class learned different undergraduate majors and their intern experiences are unique too. Maybe these studies and experiences can help them have better performance in some works

We could prepare some questions about their choices, careers and difficulties? Cause I think not only their arts are awesome, they are attractive people too. Their life experiences may reflect the history and development of arts and can give us some inspirations.
Secondly, we could also invite some poets or writers to read their works including their poetry or any part they like most or they think most meaningful for us and we could communicate about these works

I completely agree with Ndevonish (on the curation padlet stream) about payment - and I think it's crucial, as arts managers (or producers) that we acknowledge our responsibility in terms of fair pay. Artists are all too often asked to perform or contribute to projects in exchange for little/no pay, simply on the basis of the nature of their work.
We are a very large class this year, and I think it would a wonderful opportunity for us each to contribute anything up to 5$ (anonymously perhaps) to remunerate the artist for their work.

What do you think?
Let's be an example, rather than part of the problem

Some suggestions on budget.

(Heyuan)
Firstly, I am supportive of Dalia's ideas and we should show our respect to the artists and make them feel being appreciated.

However, the way to achieve this goal are multiple, instead of paying for them directly.(If we won't have too much money)

According to my previous experience, the source of the budget can be what i will mention below. (Based on it's a students program)
1\sponsor- main part (business companies or related organisation)
For example, instrument brand/ dancing studio/music teaching organisation / drinks's brand and so on.
we should make a project on mutual benefit and win-win result before we start to find our sponsor.
Apart from we are initiative to find sponsors, we can post "Finding sponsor" on social media and explain clearly how can we make promotion of sponsor's brand and what can we provide with.

2\box office - the second important part. This point is easy to understand. Selling tickets can earn money.

3\donation from ourselves. Actually,i think,it's a small part of our income.

One more to add, I think payment is not the only way to reflect the value of the artist. We can create a win-win mechanism through the model of cooperation, if we don't have enough money.Generally speaking, regard to the salary in professional standard ,the budget be a huge number.
I want to share a simple example. A bookshop provides the space for musicians to perform without rental ,but the tickets of the performance are free for the VIP customer from the bookshop. The purpose of bookshop is attracting more potential customers (the audience who are interested in music may be interested in reading )and showing gratefulness to the VIP customers. When it comes to musicians, they can get free space and the VIP customers may become their fans after watching their performance and buy the tickets of their performance next time ,even though they don't need to pay for the ticket this time.
That's what I mentioned "a win-win mechanism through the model of cooperation"- we can provide what they need and want, and we can get what we need, like "resource exchange".

(Cat)
Can you elaborate on your bookshop hypothetical? I'm not quite sure if I understand.

RE CAT:
Sorry, i didn't explain clearly before. And i edit this post again. if you have any questions on it ,just tell me.

TO CONSIDER:
Where will be the projection? Due to being a virtual gig, we can play around with where we want to position the artist. E.g. we can project them on the ceiling, or a round surface (like a column - if wide enough) ... The only important aspect is that we can put the camera nearby the projection, so that when we look at the projection the artist sees us looking at them. That's important for the communication - e.g. when we wave at them, we want to be clear we are waving at them, not someone else, so they can wave back
etc.

Ideas. From Lin Ya (Connie)Hi, guys. Due to the digital performance theme, I think we can design some creative interactive activities during the performance or at the end of the performance. Firstly, we could find a good video and show it. All the audience will get a VR glasses to watch this video. After watching, asking them to draw a painting. According to their painting, we could select some outstanding works and give them awards. Every audience can participate our interactive activity. Secondly, artists could invite some volunteers (audience) to the stage, creating a short different performance. More importantly, because the interactive part, we should find a venue which is open and have a large stage. We also can not let the audience sit in the traditional way, they can watch performances in various new ways, such as around the stage or on both sides of the stage etc.
